Position Overview

Graduate Data Engineering - MEP Digital Systems in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates is an Engineering opportunity for graduates interested in combining data analytics, programming, BIM and computational technology with building services engineering. AECOM is hiring for its Graduate Program to support MEP engineering teams through automation, digital workflows, engineering analytics and data-driven design solutions across complex building and infrastructure projects.

Role Context

This graduate position sits at the intersection of engineering, data science and digital delivery. The specialist will help mechanical, electrical and public health engineering teams turn project information into practical digital solutions, automate repetitive technical processes and improve how engineering data is collected, analysed and communicated. Working across BIM, computational engineering and building performance environments, the role contributes to faster design evaluation, stronger data quality and more informed engineering decisions. It also provides exposure to emerging applications of artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics within modern building engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with MEP engineers to introduce digital and data-driven workflows into established engineering design processes.
  • Build practical digital solutions supporting mechanical, electrical and public health engineering activities throughout project delivery.
  • Collect, structure, clean and analyse information generated by BIM models, calculations, simulations and building performance studies.
  • Create analytical workflows and data models that help engineering teams identify trends, risks, optimisation opportunities and design improvements.
  • Develop reports, dashboards and visualisations that translate technical datasets into useful project and engineering insights.
  • Use Power BI or comparable platforms to present engineering performance information clearly.
  • Automate calculations, model checking, reporting, data extraction and other repetitive engineering processes.
  • Develop scripts and reusable tools using Python, C#, Dynamo, Grasshopper, VBA, APIs and other suitable programming environments.
  • Connect BIM information with engineering analysis, simulation and data analytics platforms.
  • Establish automated QA and QC routines capable of identifying inconsistencies, errors and potential non-compliance in engineering models and datasets.
  • Extract and analyse information from Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud while supporting improved interoperability between project systems.
  • Maintain engineering databases, digital templates, internal libraries and reusable computational workflows.
  • Assist with building performance analysis covering energy consumption, HVAC performance, thermal comfort and indoor environmental quality.
  • Process simulation outputs produced through IES VE, EnergyPlus or comparable building performance applications.
  • Investigate relationships between design parameters, system configuration and building performance outcomes.
  • Explore predictive analytics and machine learning applications for MEP design, operational data and building optimisation.
  • Support value engineering and option analysis by applying structured data to design decisions.
  • Evaluate emerging software, technologies and methodologies that could improve engineering productivity and project delivery.
  • Develop proof-of-concept digital solutions and demonstrate their practical value to engineering teams.
  • Help colleagues adopt automation, computational design, AI and data analytics tools through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.

Ideal Profile

A suitable candidate will hold a degree or diploma in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Digital or Computational Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, MEP Engineering or another closely related discipline. Strong Python and C# programming capability is particularly valuable, including experience using code for automation, data manipulation and analytical workflows. Knowledge of SQL, Power BI and data visualisation techniques is expected. Exposure to engineering and BIM environments such as Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, IES VE, EnergyPlus, Rhino, Grasshopper and Dynamo will strengthen the candidate 's profile.
