Description
You'll play a key role in supporting the design and development of critical infrastructure projects across OCU's utility and energy sectors. Based in either Glasgow or Perth, you'll work as part of our Engineering team, helping to deliver innovative, safe and efficient design solutions that support the construction, maintenance and enhancement of essential networks and infrastructure.
You'll gain exposure to the full design lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction support and project handover. Working alongside experienced engineers, project managers, operational teams and clients, you'll help develop technical designs, produce engineering documentation and support the delivery of projects that meet technical, regulatory and customer requirements.
As part of the role, you'll assist with engineering calculations, design drawings, technical reports, site surveys and design reviews. You'll gain valuable experience using industry-standard engineering software and design tools while developing an understanding of relevant legislation, technical specifications and engineering best practice. You'll also work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and aligned with project objectives.
The role will provide opportunities to visit operational and project sites, giving you valuable insight into how engineering designs are translated into real-world construction and infrastructure projects. As your skills and confidence grow, you'll take on increasing responsibility, develop your technical and stakeholder management capabilities, and become an important contributor to delivering infrastructure that supports communities and critical services across the UK.
Graduates who are passionate about engineering, design and problem-solving and want to develop a career creating innovative solutions for infrastructure and utility projects. You'll be curious, analytical and eager to learn, with strong technical aptitude and an interest in how engineering designs are developed and delivered.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys applying engineering principles to real-world challenges, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and developing practical solutions that make a tangible impact. You'll be keen to develop your technical expertise, communication skills and understanding of design standards while working alongside experienced engineers and industry specialists.
You'll enjoy balancing analytical design work with practical project exposure, helping to deliver safe, sustainable and efficient engineering solutions that support essential infrastructure and services.
You'll need (or be on track to achieve) a degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related engineering discipline with a minimum 2:2 classification.
Due to occasional travel between offices and project sites, a full UK driving licence would be beneficial.
Experience gained through academic projects, placements, internships or extracurricular engineering activities involving design, engineering analysis or infrastructure projects would be advantageous.
Our 2 year Graduate Programme combines structured training with hands-on experience, giving you real responsibility from day one. You'll learn directly alongside industry experts in a collaborative, supportive environment. We invest in your continuous professional development, giving you the tools, confidence and clear progression path to build a long term career within OCU.
