Graduate Engineer / Scientist - Environment (Feb 2027)

The Role

As a Graduate at SMEC, you’ll be part of a high-impact talent group, contributing to the delivery of major infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists.

Our two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) is designed to accelerate your growth — combining hands-on project experience with structured learning, mentoring, and exposure across teams and disciplines.

Once completed, successful Graduates move along our Career Pathways, transitioning to their Professional title (either ‘Graduate’ or ‘Scientist’ depending on the technical discipline) and then onwards. Growth is a balanced blend of experience, tenure, development, goals and desired trajectory.

What you can expect:

  • Real project exposure from day one across major infrastructure projects
  • A connected ANZ graduate network and strong peer community
  • Mentoring from senior engineers and technical specialists
  • Structured development through workshops, online learning, and immersive experiences
  • Opportunities to build consulting skills including communication, collaboration, and problem-solving
  • Industry and global networking opportunities across the SJ Group
  • Ongoing development beyond the GDP, with support for further study

Key responsibilities:

You’ll support the delivery of environmental projects from day one — contributing to analysis, fieldwork and documentation while learning from experienced professionals and gaining exposure to project and stakeholder delivery.

  • Contribute to environmental projects by supporting technical tasks, data collection and analysis to inform project outcomes
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental reports, assessments and project documentation to support compliance and delivery
  • Participate in fieldwork and site investigations, including environmental monitoring and data gathering activities
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients and stakeholders to support coordinated and high-quality project delivery
  • Develop your technical and consulting skills by learning and applying environmental standards, regulations and best practice through structured and on-the-job experience

About You

You’re a motivated Graduate who enjoys problem-solving, working in teams, and contributing to real-world projects.

You will bring:

  • Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret environmental data and technical information
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to contribute to reports and work within collaborative project teams

At Surbana Jurong, we put talent, hard work, teamwork and a fun workplace together to approach problems and solve them creatively and collaboratively. Join us in making a positive impact on the world!
