The Grocery Manager is responsible for the overall operation, profitability, merchandising, and staffing of the Grocery Department. This position leads department employees, ensures exceptional customer service, maintains inventory accuracy, and drives sales while controlling expenses and shrink. The Grocery Manager is accountable for maintaining department standards, food safety compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development- Lead, coach, and develop Grocery Department employees, including supervisors, stockers, and clerks.
- Recruit, interview, train, and onboard new team members.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development.
- Promote a positive, productive, and customer-focused work environment.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to support business needs.
- Manage daily Grocery Department operations to achieve sales and profitability goals.
- Coordinate stocking, replenishment, rotation, and merchandising activities.
- Maintain proper inventory levels and product availability.
- Ensure compliance with company merchandising and display standards.
- Monitor department conditions to ensure cleanliness, organization, and efficiency.
- Deliver and promote exceptional customer service throughout the department.
- Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Ensure employees provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
- Build customer loyalty through outstanding shopping experiences.
- Execute promotional programs, seasonal displays, and merchandising initiatives.
- Monitor sales trends and adjust ordering and merchandising plans accordingly.
- Ensure products are attractively displayed and properly signed.
- Maximize sales opportunities through effective merchandising strategies.
- Monitor inventory levels and ordering processes to maintain in-stock conditions.
- Ensure proper receiving, storage, stocking, and rotation practices.
- Minimize shrink through inventory controls, product handling, and loss prevention practices.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Manage department labor and operating expenses within established budgets.
- Review sales, margin, shrink, and productivity reports regularly.
- Develop action plans to improve department performance and profitability.
- Support store-wide financial and operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a safe environment for customers and employees.
- Enforce company policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure department compliance and readiness.
