Position Summary:

The purpose of the Grossing Technician I is to provide general assistance to Pathologists' Assistants and pathologists to ensure smooth work flow of the entire grossing department in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of work. Under the supervision of the Grossing Supervisor and general technical direction of pathologists, the Gross Tech I is responsible for the accurate description and dissection of simple surgical specimens. The Grossing Technician must adhere to HIPAA standards. Due to various environmental hazards presented in the workplace such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc., employees must also adhere to strict Standard Operating Procedures and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.


Position Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5pm - 1:30am. There will be an initial training period at a Monday - Friday, 12:00pm - 8:30pm.


Essential Duties:

  • Gross simple to moderately complex specimens
  • Troubleshoot dictation, accessioning, technical & communication issues
  • Gross photography
  • Handling of certain tissue types for special studies
  • Possible rotation at nearby neighbor clinic
  • Assist in training of new staff and competency assessments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
