Group Financial Controller

About the Role:

This is one of the most significant appointments Norstar is making in 2026. You will report directly to the Managing Director day-to-day, with a direct line to the shareholders and real access to Group leadership from Day

The role has three clear mandates: strengthen the financial foundations; give the MD and owners sharp, timely and forward-looking financial insight and build the infrastructure to support the Group’s next stage of growth.

What You’ll Do:

Financial Reporting - Own the integrity and completeness of Group financial reporting across all entities, including monthly management accounts, consolidated statements and vessel-specific P&L in compliance with IFRS and SFRS.

Controls & Process Improvement - Design and enforce a robust internal controls framework, drive automation and standardisation of finance processes, and lead the evaluation and implementation of an upgraded Group ERP system.

Treasury & Banking - Manage Group cash flow forecasting, oversee all banking operations, ensure covenant compliance, and supervise accounts receivable and payable across all entities.

Compliance & Audit - Lead all external audit engagements, ensure full compliance with Singapore corporate tax, GST, transfer pricing and statutory obligations.

Financial Planning & Strategic Support - Lead annual budgeting and forecasting, provide variance analysis and financial modelling for vessel acquisitions, JV structures and new management mandates.

Team Leadership - Oversee the Yangon-based accounts team, setting the standard for quality and consistency across the Group’s transactional accounting function; set performance objectives and build succession plans for key finance roles.

Regular travel to Yangon (Myanmar) is required and occasional travel as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

• Degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline; CPA (Singapore), CA, ACCA or equivalent

• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior controllership role

• Proven multi-entity, multi-currency group accounting experience across Asian and Western entities

• Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and SFRS

• Shipping or maritime industry experience is a hard requirement - vessel disbursement accounting, owner accounting, management fee structures, ship finance, familiarity with MPA grants and incentive schemes, and hands-on experience with shipping accounting software.

• Hands-on experience with external audits, tax compliance and statutory filings in Singapore

• Experience supporting a business through a growth phase - M&A, JV structuring or capital markets preparation

You are:

• Hands-on, organised and comfortable managing multiple deadlines simultaneously

• A clear and proactive communicator - able to flag issues early, present solutions, and translate financial information for non-finance owners and management.

• High integrity - this role requires complete trust worthiness in handling sensitive financial information for a founder-owned group

• Adaptable and growth-minded - comfortable in a fast-changing, expanding business
