Position Overview

The Group Leader supports COMPASS, SONYC, Beacon, and Cornerstone afterschool programs by supervising classroom-based activities for youth ages 5 to 13. This role creates a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment that promotes participants' social, emotional, and academic growth. The Group Leader leads daily activities, supports program operations, and works collaboratively with staff to provide a positive experience for youth and families.

This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide youth participants during daily activities and programs.
  • Lead structured activities, games, and group sessions.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Manage group behavior and address conflicts appropriately.
  • Serve as a positive role model and encourage teamwork.
  • Assist with planning and organizing program activities and events.
  • Take attendance and monitor participant engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and supervisors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children ages 5-13.
  • At least one year of experience in a classroom, daycare, or school-based setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Culturally competent with ability to engage diverse populations.
  • Flexible, reliable, and able to take initiative.
  • Must pass background checks and required clearances (DOH, DOE, DYCD, UAU).

Pay Range

USD $17.50 - USD $19.00 /Hr.
