Designs and develops PCBs, schematics, and electronic solutions for surveillance/communications hardware, troubleshooting faults and supporting production teams using KiCAD and test equipment.

As a KiCAD Hardware Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of varied technical challenges, from developing PCBs and improving existing products to diagnosing faults and supporting production teams.
You’ll join an established specialist equipment business supplying communications and surveillance solutions across Police, Military, Government and Industrial sectors. Based at a dedicated site close to Birmingham International railway station, you’ll work across multiple departments and have the opportunity to influence products from development through to manufacture.

- Create and interpret schematic diagrams, translating requirements into practical electronic solutions.
- Develop printed circuit boards, applying effective layout practices and considering EMI/EMC requirements.
- Diagnose and repair PCB faults identified during production or on equipment returned by customers.
- Research components, prototype solutions and carry out testing to support new developments and product improvements.
- Support Production, Sales, Video and Specialist Vehicle Operations teams with technical issues and product requirements.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, revisions and project records using Jira and Git.
- Practical electronics industry experience, including fault diagnosis, schematic interpretation and identifying circuit issues.
- Working knowledge and practical experience of KiCAD PCB software – this is mandatory.
- Experience using electronic test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators and PCB rework tools.
- Ability to research component functions and select suitable modern or smaller replacement components for existing circuits.
- Soldering capability would be advantageous, alongside familiarity with Jira, Git and Microsoft 365.
