Hardware Engineer(Media/Talk)

Open 46d posting dated 4 days ago

Summary

Designs and integrates ARM-based hardware systems for networking devices, overseeing schematics, power sequencing, and mass production while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

About Ubiquiti

At Ubiquiti Inc., we create technology platforms for Businesses, Smart Homes, and Internet Service Providers, driven by our goal to connect everyone, everywhere. To date, Ubiquiti has shipped over 100 million devices worldwide, from ISP networking products to next generation of IT solutions. Our growth is made possible by the dedicated team of hundreds behind the scenes. From software developers and product managers to designers and strategists, Team UI is driven to achieve our common goal: Rethinking IT. At Ubiquiti, you’ll heighten your potential and broaden your horizons - all while shaping the future of connectivity.

Responsibilities (What he/she will do after joining UI):

  • System Architecture & Integration: Drive system hardware development for ARM-based processors and MCU systems from architecture definition through board-level bring-up and mass production.
  • Design & Review Ownership: Own and review system schematic designs, peripheral interfaces (Ethernet/PoE, USB, SPI, UART, I2C), power sequencing, and BOM maintenance.
  • Collaborative Reviews: Lead system schematic reviews; partner with Mechanical Engineers for mechanical stacking and Layout Engineers for critical routing (SI/PI/EMI/ESD optimization).
  • Design for Excellence (DFX): Review designs for component derating, reliability, DFM (Manufacturing), DFA (Assembly), and DFC (Cost optimization).
  • Issue Tracking & Lifecycle Support: Formulate hardware validation plans, execute testing, and track technical risks/issues from prototype to mass production (MP).

Cross-Functional Collaboration (How we work together):

The Hardware Engineer acts as the core system integrator. Specialized engineering teams lead their respective domains:

  • Audio Team: Leads audio circuit design, acoustic performance, AEC, and noise reduction.
  • RF Team: Leads RF circuit design, antenna implementation, and wireless certification.
  • Firmware/Software Teams: Lead bootloader bring-up, OS integration, and driver configuration.
  • Layout/Mechanical Teams: Lead physical implementation based on EE constraints.

You are not expected to replace these specialized functions, but rather to manage integration risks and ensure cohesive system-level performance.

Minimum Qualifications (MUST-haves):

  • 5–8 years of professional experience in board-level or system-level hardware development.
  • Proven track record of bringing electronic products through the entire lifecycle to Mass Production (MP).
  • Strong experience with ARM-based SoCs/processors and MCU architectures, including power sequencing, boot configurations, and peripheral allocation.
  • Proficiency with design and review tools, such as OrCAD Capture, Allegro Viewer, or PowerPCB Viewer.
  • Solid hands-on debugging skills using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, with practical knowledge of ESD, EMI, Surge, and thermal design.
