Ebels Hardware in Falmouth is looking for a Full-Time Tractor Mechanic / Technician to diagnose, repair, service, and maintain tractors, lawn and garden equipment, utility vehicles, and related machinery. This position performs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and preventive maintenance work while ensuring repairs are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically skilled, detail-oriented, and committed to providing excellent service. This individual must be able to work independently and as part of a team while communicating professionally with customers, coworkers, and service department leadership.
Compensation for this position ranges from $18.00 to $24.00 per hour, based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and service tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, snowblowers, tillers, and other outdoor power equipment, including gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, steering, braking, engine, transmission, drivetrain, cooling, and charging systems.
- Perform routine maintenance, engine repairs, component replacement, tune-ups, and rebuilds when qualified.
- Use diagnostic equipment, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer technical information to accurately identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation, performance, and safety, and report additional repairs or safety concerns to the Service Manager.
- Review work orders, document inspection findings, diagnoses, labor, parts used, additional repair recommendations, and service status accurately and promptly.
- Provide accurate parts and labor information for service estimates and communicate repair needs, delays, and additional work to the Service Manager.
- Communicate professionally with customers, explain equipment concerns and completed repairs clearly, and direct questions regarding estimates, warranties, or repair authorization to the appropriate manager.
- Identify and request parts needed for repairs and coordinate with the Parts Department or Service Manager regarding availability and ordering.
- Maintain and safely use personal and company-owned tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, jacks, hoists, welding equipment, grinders, and other shop equipment.
- Work cooperatively with the Service Manager, service writers, parts employees, sales staff, and other technicians; assist with diagnosis, repairs, and training as needed.
- Participate in manufacturer training, safety meetings, and company training programs.
- Assist with service department workflow during peak seasons, including loading, unloading, pickup, and delivery of customer equipment when assigned.
- Maintain customer confidentiality and handle customer equipment with care and professionalism.
- Perform other duties reasonably related to the position.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with professional experience repairing tractors, agricultural equipment, outdoor power equipment, small engines, automotive equipment, or similar machinery; 2+ years preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment using service manuals, wiring schematics, parts diagrams, and diagnostic equipment.
- Technical or vocational training, manufacturer or industry certifications, welding/light fabrication experience, and experience servicing multiple equipment brands preferred.
- Ability to safely operate tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and related equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record when operating company vehicles or performing pickups and deliveries.
- Ability to work occasional Saturdays and extended hours during peak seasons.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, reach, climb, work in confined positions, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in a shop environment with noise, dust, fumes, vibration, temperature changes, and outdoor weather conditions.
