The HAZMAT Transport Driver will provide extensive knowledge, experience, and leadership for the safe transportation of all natural gas products & projects. The role will be to operate and maintain equipment, support LNG and CNG delivery, and ensure overall project success while providing top-level customer service and leadership in the field. This position will report directly to the Director of Transportation.
The HAZMAT Transport Driver must reside within 30 minutes of Riverhead, NY 11901. This position will be working on a project that will help mobilize equipment from TX to NY. The job will run through mid/late March and is a long-term. Approximately 26 trailers will be loaded and staged at the job site in Riverhead, NY & the drivers will be staged at a location with the tractor and loaded CNG nearby until flowing gas is needed.
The refill site for CNG once the trailers have been emptied will be approximately 500 miles away in the Montoursville, PA 17754 Region. There will be technicians on site to make connections at the offloads and will go over the driver requirements with them in a briefing before the job starts. Drivers will be taught how to make connections and fill trailers though, so drivers are aware in the event of an emergency or that it is needed when refilling. On-the-Job training will be conducted the same time new hire orientation happens.
The driver MUST be with their truck 7 days a week, 12-hour shifts, for the entire duration of the timeline; no days off for holidays & will be working. Drivers will go home every night when we are staging, tractors will remain at the stage yard. Drivers will need to drive their personal vehicle each day to work. Traveling to and from work each day is not paid
For the Logbook: drivers will keep the log book with them on yard & move every day as they are on standby and could be called, not free to go do personal things as needed. When the site commences a call out (based on temperature), the driver will have a heads-up watching weather for to prepare, customer will give run times, based on this & there is a chance that some drivers will need to move to night shift for that few days until the call out completes.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operate all company equipment safely and in accordance with procedures when delivering, loading, or offloading CNG.
- Deliver and stage equipment at assigned project locations as directed, maintaining full compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections to detect potential issues with company equipment and identify any safety or maintenance concerns
- Report equipment accidents, property damage to equipment per company policy.
- Report all roadside inspections to the DOT Coordinator within 24 hours per DOT regulations.
- Operate medium- to heavy-duty vehicles with various trailer combinations independently.
- Secure cargo for transportation using chains, binders, tarps, bungee cords, and ratchets
- Understand and comply with company standard operating procedures and policies
- Have a sound understanding of DOT regulations, internal policies, government safety, and regulatory standards, and ensure these policies and standards are applied to daily activities and job sites
- Maintain a clean environment inside and outside of the assigned vehicle
- Obtain Texas Railroad Commission LNG & CNG Certification (within 45 days of start).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
