Role Overview
The General Manager – CEPAA is a strategic leadership role responsible
for driving the organization's efforts in communication, education, public
awareness, and advocacy. This position requires a dynamic media and
communications professional who can develop and execute innovative strategies
to amplify CanKids’ mission, raise awareness about pediatric cancer, engage
diverse stakeholders, and advocate for systemic change. The General Manager
will lead a multidisciplinary team to align messaging, build partnerships, and
ensure impactful outreach through campaigns, content, and education.

Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic
Planning and Leadership
- Design
and implement a holistic communication, patient education, and advocacy
strategy aligned with CanKids’ mission and vision.
- Lead
initiatives to increase public awareness about pediatric cancer, care, and
survivorship while influencing policy and systemic change.
- Develop
clear, impactful messaging tailored to diverse audiences, including
families, healthcare professionals, policymakers, donors, and volunteers.
- Collaborate
with cross-functional teams, including fundraising, operations, and
program heads, to ensure consistent and aligned messaging.
2. Public
Awareness and Advocacy
- Lead
high-impact awareness campaigns, events, and initiatives that educate the
public and stakeholders about pediatric cancer.
- Advocate
for healthcare equity by creating compelling advocacy materials, including
policy briefs, white papers, and position statements.
- Build
partnerships with government agencies, healthcare organizations, and
nonprofits to further advocacy goals.
- Represent
CanKids in external forums, panels, and events to enhance its advocacy
presence.
3. Content
Development and Educational Outreach
- Oversee
the creation of educational materials and resources for caregivers,
schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
- Drive
storytelling initiatives to amplify patient and caregiver experiences,
creating empathy and awareness.
- Develop
and manage content for websites, newsletters, reports, social media, and
other platforms to engage key audiences effectively.
- Ensure
that all communication is culturally sensitive and resonates with target
demographics.
4. Media
Relations and Digital Engagement
- Build
and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, influencers, and
advocacy groups to increase visibility.
- Respond
to media inquiries and ensure the organization’s leadership is
well-prepared for media interactions.
- Drive
a strong digital presence through innovative social media campaigns,
online events, and community-building activities.
- Monitor
digital analytics and feedback to measure campaign success and refine
strategies.
5. Internal
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Foster
transparent and consistent communication within the organization to keep
staff informed, engaged, and aligned with CanKids’ mission.
- Act
as a bridge between different teams, ensuring effective knowledge sharing
and collaboration.
- Facilitate
training programs and workshops to build advocacy and communication
capacities within the organization.
6. Brand and
Reputation Management
- Uphold
and enhance CanKids’ brand identity and reputation as a leader in
pediatric cancer advocacy and support.
- Proactively
manage crisis communication and sensitive issues to safeguard the
organization’s credibility.
- Regularly
monitor brand perception and implement strategies to strengthen trust and
recognition.
7. Budget
and Resource Management
- Develop
and manage budgets for CEPPA-related initiatives, ensuring optimal use of
resources.
- Identify
and leverage funding opportunities and grants to support communication and
advocacy projects.
Other Extended Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by
the CRMCO or the Board Committee.
Requirements
Required
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s
degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Social
Work, or a related field.
- Minimum
5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a nonprofit, healthcare, or
advocacy-oriented role.
- Strong
leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to inspire
and guide diverse teams.
- Demonstrated
experience in public awareness campaigns, advocacy, and stakeholder
engagement.
- Exceptional
written and verbal communication skills, including expertise in
storytelling and crafting impactful messages.
- A
deep understanding of digital marketing, social media, and analytics
tools.
- Ability
to build and maintain strong relationships with media, influencers, and
advocacy networks.
- Strategic
thinker with problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple
projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion
for the mission of CanKids and a commitment to making a tangible impact in
pediatric cancer care and advocacy.
Preferred
Skills:
- Experience
in the Indian healthcare or nonprofit sector, particularly in advocacy
roles.
- Knowledge
of policy frameworks and healthcare systems in India.
- Familiarity
with regional languages and cultural sensitivities for effective
communication.
- Proficiency
in tools like Canva, Adobe Suite, or other content creation platforms is a
plus.
