Head Coach High School Varsity Golf
Girard College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Varsity Golf Coach. The Head Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the Varsity Golf Program across both the fall and spring seasons, including instruction, skill development, competition preparation, and student-athlete mentorship.
The Head Coach will establish and maintain a positive, disciplined, and competitive program that reflects the mission and values of Girard College while promoting sportsmanship, integrity, academic achievement, and personal growth.
The successful candidate must possess strong knowledge of golf instruction, rules, etiquette, scoring formats, and player development at the high school level.

Responsibilities
The Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and development of the Varsity Golf Program across both fall and spring seasons. This includes planning practices, coordinating competitions, supervising athletes during matches, and promoting a culture of respect, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The Head Coach is expected to ensure compliance with all Girard College policies and the rules and regulations of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A.), the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association (M.P.A.A.), and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (P.I.A.A.).
Required Skills
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of golf instruction, swing fundamentals, course management, and match strategy.
- Develop and implement structured practice plans for both individual and team development.
- Teach rules, etiquette, scoring procedures, and pace-of-play expectations.
- Foster a culture of integrity, patience, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and school personnel.
- Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and/or volunteer assistants.
- Organize player development opportunities and skill progression plans.
- Work collaboratively with athletic staff and school administrators.
- Lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds as needed.
Required Duties
- Direct all aspects of the Varsity Golf Program (fall and spring seasons).
- Organize and conduct tryouts and player evaluations.
- Develop and implement practice plans focused on skill development and competition readiness.
- Schedule and manage matches in coordination with the Athletic Director.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, matches, and travel.
- Teach scoring, rules, etiquette, and competitive match play formats.
- Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
- Coordinate with golf courses and facilities for practices and competitions.
- Maintain and oversee all program equipment (clubs, bags, practice materials, etc.).
- Coordinate transportation and supervise student-athletes during travel.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with all school transportation policies.
- Ensure compliance with all athletic associations and school regulations.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and athlete development.
- Attend Athletic Department meetings as required.
- Complete end-of-season evaluations for both fall and spring seasons.
