Summary

Lead a competitive high school and club rowing program for grades 6–12, managing 140 athletes, 4–6 assistant coaches, and boathouse operations while fostering team culture and athlete development.

Position Summary

The Bolles School is seeking a collaborative and experienced Head Rowing Coach to lead its nationally recognized scholastic and club rowing program. Working in partnership with the other Head Coach, this position oversees approximately 100 student-athletes (grades 6–12) and a staff of 3–6 Assistant Coaches. The Head Coach is responsible for program leadership, athlete development, staff supervision, operations, and fostering a positive, competitive team culture.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the scholastic and club rowing programs, including practices, regattas, training plans, camps, and youth rowing initiatives.
  • Teach rowing technique, conditioning, race strategy, safety, and boathouse protocols.
  • Supervise and mentor student-athletes while promoting sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth.
  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate Assistant Coaches.
  • Oversee the safe operation and maintenance of the boathouse, docks, boats, and rowing equipment.
  • Coordinate scheduling, travel, budgeting, special events, and other program operations.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, parents, and the Marketing Department to support and promote the rowing program.
  • Guide student-athletes interested in collegiate rowing opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with The Bolles School, U.S. Rowing, FSRA, and FHSAA policies and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five years of rowing coaching and leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of rowing instruction, training, and athlete development.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Florida driver's license and boating license.

Preferred

  • Competitive rowing experience at the club or collegiate level.
  • Experience coaching middle and high school student-athletes.
  • Independent school experience.
  • U.S. Rowing Level I, II, or higher certification and membership in good standing.
  • Knowledge of FHSAA rules and regulations.
