HEAD LIFEGUARD

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, performs professional duties in ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions. Assists in hiring, training, scheduling and appraising lifeguards. Ensures that life-saving certification is current and that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures and coordinates in ensuring safety of patrons in and around the pools and monitoring swimmers and to enforce all safety rules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensures swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Fills in for lifeguards as necessary.
2. Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities. Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
3. Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas is maintained during operating hours.
4. Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
5. Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues.
6. Provides input and feedback while responding to problems.
7. Teaches individual and group swim lessons and other water activities.
8. Works in the capacity of the Pool Manager in his/her absence.
9. Keeps management well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
10. Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Pool Manager.
11. Reports any unusual activities or unsafe conditions to management.
12. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned scheduled each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo Sandia.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Performs other duties as requested.
2. Supports a single or multiple function by providing a professional service often obtained through education, and significate previous work experience in a highly skilled capacity.
3. Holds current licenses, certifications, advanced education degrees, and other stipulated technical expertise as required.
4. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in all aspects of the specialized function and considered a subject matter expert within the peer set.
5. May direct an operation and provide oversight in managing subordinates.
6. Demonstrates the emotional intelligence to work effectively in all situations that may occur. Demonstrates precision and accuracy in completing objectives and managing information.

Key Performance Indicators

This position has Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) identified as a measurement of success. KPI’s will be shared with all team members who work in this job title and feedback will be provided regarding the successful completion of the KPI’s as part of the performance review process.

1. Must be an excellent swimmer.
2. Ability to work under limited supervision.
3. Ability to work with both children and adults.
4. Knowledge of first aid.
5. Knowledge of Wellness Center and Tribal rules regarding facility use and operation.
6. Knowledge of general safety rules, equipment, games and operating procedures.
7. Knowledge of general safety, requirements and procedures.
8. Ability to read signs, labels and follow directions.

9. Ability to create an environment of teamwork by communicating common goals and showing appreciation for Team Members contributions and on-going support.
