- Media Relations: Build relationships with healthcare trade (e.g., Home Health Care News, McKnight’s, STAT News), national business, and regional media – serving as spokesperson and producing press releases, fact sheets, and boilerplate.
- PR Firm & Advisor Management: Own relationships with the retained PR firm(s) and external advisors – setting strategy, managing budget and deliverables, and holding them accountable for results.
- Thought Leadership & Recognition: Position the CEO and leadership as voices in home based and palliative care through conference speaking (e.g., NAHC, LPF, HLTH, HIMSS), bylines, op-eds, and industry awards.
- Issues & Crisis Communications: Lead issues and crisis communications with legal, compliance, operations, and external advisors – maintaining HIPAA-compliant protocols and holding statements for a fast, confident response.
- Internal Communications: Own employee communications across a distributed, multi-state workforce – leadership messages, company announcements, and change and integration communications that keep employees informed and connected to the mission.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Align communications with company milestones, growth and acquisition announcements, and strategic priorities – partnering with the Executive Leadership Team and supporting recruitment, referral development, and payer relations.
- Measurement: Define and report on KPIs such as earned media, share of voice, and employee engagement.
Qualifications
- Experience: 7+ years in communications or public relations, including leading both internal and external communications – ideally in home-based care, value-based care, or broader healthcare. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Media & Executive Visibility: Established healthcare media relationships (or the ability to build them quickly) and a track record positioning executives as credible public voices.
- Agency Management: Experience directing PR agencies and vendors against clear goals.
- Exceptional Writing: Clear, compelling writer across formats, from employee announcements to press releases, speeches, and op-eds.
- Collaborative Independent Operator: Energized as the first communications hire – builds structure, sets priorities, and moves quickly while partnering effectively with marketing and social media teams.
