Head of Controlling (Brussels)

The Head of Controlling, manages the controller’s team in all the controlling activities over the entire portfolio of projects.
S/He works closely with the Project, NewBizz, Finance and Administration Teams to provide accurate project accounting and financial information to set the foundations for sound project analysis, fact-based decision-making, and as such contribute to ensure the profitability of projects and of the company.
S/he contributes to ensure accurate company accounting, reporting figures and legal duties. S/He provides full compliance with group reporting and internal control standards, acting as a key interface between the local entity and Group Finance. Leadership & Governance

  • Manage the Controlling team.
    • Mentor team members to better address client expectations, project challenges, Management requirements and Company expectations.
    • Ensuring optimized resources allocation to projects based on volume, operational complexity and risks, through justified workload analysis and a healthy work/life balance in line with Company goals and objectives.
    • Set annual objectives for team members in collaboration with the HR specialist and with the approval of the Finance Director regarding professional achievements and personal development.
    • Enforce RESPECT® within the team. Encourage team spirit, personal development and involvement in projects and company business and manage conflict between team members.
    • Manage, plan and approve holiday and other leave requests.
    • Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Reports to the GOPA Com. Finance Director and act as key contact for Group Finance, auditors, and tax advisors
Projects Controlling
  • Review and monitor project budgets from project initiation phase (tendering) up to the closure of the project.
  • Monitor and follow-up the implementation phases of the projects in close collaboration with Project Managers, the Administrative Hub and the Accounting Team.
  • Supervise and approve budgets in the ERP system.
  • Approve purchase order and invoice allocation in the ERP system.
  • Issue and validate the outgoing customers’ invoices and follow up customer payments.
  • Set and monitor the quality of the controlling services in terms of accuracy, timeliness, and completeness according to company requirement and business needs.
  • Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of internal control systems
Financial Analysis
  • Prepare and coordinate project audits together with the Project Managers and Administrative team.
  • Ensure proper, accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and yearly closure of project financials
  • Monitor and ensure project margins are secured and in line with budgets.
  • Make sure necessary accruals are recorded and followed up during quarterly closings.
  • Ensure proper, accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and yearly project financial reporting in line with group requirements.
  • Report any potential operational issues you identify and discuss them with the Project Manager, Division Director and Finance Director in a timely manner and propose effective solutions.
Compliance
  • Ensure project financials compliance with all local tax, statutory and regulatory requirements (corporate tax, VAT, withholding taxes, etc.)
  • Ensure Compliance requirements are met for all the projects in your portfolio, in close collaboration with the Project Managers and the Tax/Compliance Officers.
Audit & Compliance
  • Assist in audits and business development references
  • Lead Projects audits, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables
Business Support & Organisation
  • Support the Operations and Services departments by providing any Project financial information.
  • Works in close relation with the accounting team.
  • Quality, Safety and Environmental System. As a GOPA Com. staff member and as a Line Manager, guide your team in all aspects related to the implementation of the quality, safety and environmental policies and actions.
  • Degree in Finance.
  • +5-10 years of relevant Project management/Controlling experience in an international environment
  • Ability to manage a team
  • Successful track record in controlling, Reporting and managing tight deadlines.
  • Capacity for independent decision-making, taking initiative and exchange with C-level management on strategic orientation of the business.
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Proven experience with ERP systems
