Position: Head of Engineering – Data & AI

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical roadmap across data, search and AI platforms.
• Lead the development of data pipelines, search and retrieval systems, improving data quality, search relevance and platform performance.
• Build and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team, including hiring, performance management and talent development.
• Oversee system architecture, reliability, scalability and production engineering standards.
• Work closely with Product and domain experts to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading engineering teams, including hiring, team building and performance management.
• Strong experience defining technical roadmaps and building complex, data-intensive platforms.
• Solid expertise in data engineering, search systems or information retrieval.
• Strong technical foundation in backend systems, databases, distributed systems and APIs.
• Hands-on production engineering experience with languages such as Java, Go, Scala, Python, Rust or C++.
• Strong architectural judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical quality and business priorities.

Nice to Have

• Experience with RAG, hybrid search or LLM-powered applications.
• Knowledge of document processing, OCR, knowledge graphs or entity resolution.
• Experience with scientific data, technical documents, materials science, chemistry or patents.
