Head of Engineering

This function-level leadership role owns engineering standards, the unified Software Development Lifecycle, engineering manager leadership, backend change governance, technical debt, capacity planning, incident response, and AI-first engineering practices within a regulated, Bitcoin-native bank.

Responsibilities

• Drive predictable delivery across the engineering function and product tribes.
• Set and enforce engineering standards, code review practices, retrospectives, and feedback loops.
• Lead Engineering Managers through performance management, growth, 1:1s, and hiring.
• Own the unified SDLC and its governance and enforcement.
• Govern backend change management with risk-tiered approvals and regulator-ready audit trails.
• Own the engineering technical debt roadmap and capacity planning.
• Lead incident response, post-mortems, and closure of resulting action items.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and practices.
• Clear blockers and coordinate cross-functional initiatives across product, technology, and operations.
• Own engineering OKRs and execute quality, security, architecture, and observability standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3–4 years in engineering leadership across multiple teams or squads.
• Track record of owning function-level delivery predictability.
• Experience defining and operating SDLC, code review, change management, retrospectives, and feedback loops.
• Strong people leadership of Engineering Managers, including hiring, development, and performance management.
• Evidence-based experience with AI-assisted development across the SDLC.
• Understanding of backend distributed systems in regulated, high-stakes environments.
• Data-driven experience owning engineering metrics and converting them into prioritized actions.
• Strong communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in regulated fintech, banking, payments, or equivalent environments.
