Head of Financial Crime Product
Responsabilities
- Strategy and roadmap. Set the financial crime product strategy. Build financial crime controls, own the product roadmap, agree delivery priorities and capacity with Engineering, and be responsible for the outcomes.
- Leadership. Lead and develop Financial Crime Product Owners. Establish clear ownership of product areas and help the team make sound decisions through research, data analysis and a close understanding of operational work.
- Prioritisation. Prioritise improvements with Operations, Compliance and Engineering. Examine the underlying problem, assess alternative solutions and make trade-offs explicit when risk, customer impact and delivery effort point to different choices.
- Control design. Translate control requirements into product designs and acceptance criteria with the relevant control owners. Work with Engineering on feasibility and delivery, maintaining a clear distinction between product decisions and technical implementation.
- Customer journey. Improve how financial crime capabilities connect across the customer journey. Address gaps in data quality, case information and handovers so customers avoid unnecessary repetition and operational teams can make well-informed decisions.
- Build or buy. Assess opportunities to build or buy capabilities with Engineering and relevant partner teams. Evaluate functionality, integration needs and ongoing costs, and set clear expectations for the performance of external products.
- Automation and AI. Lead product discovery and delivery for automation and AI applications. Agree evaluation methods, acceptance criteria and human oversight with the appropriate owners, and assess performance after deployment.
- New products and markets. Prepare capabilities for new products and markets with Operations, Compliance and local leaders. Make dependencies and readiness gaps visible, and coordinate releases, training and adoption with the teams who will use them.
- Performance after launch. Measure product performance after launch using control results, operational evidence and customer experience. Use findings to improve the roadmap and address features that create additional effort or fail to deliver their intended benefit.
Requirements
- Significant product management experience in financial crime, regtech or compliance technology, including leading other product managers or product owners.
- Strong working knowledge of financial crime controls: customer due diligence and KYC, sanctions and PEP screening, transaction monitoring, fraud prevention and case management.
- Understanding of AML and counter-terrorist financing requirements across several jurisdictions, such as the UK Money Laundering Regulations, the EU AML Directives and their equivalents in Australia, the UAE and the Bahamas, and how they translate into product requirements.
- A track record of owning a roadmap and delivering with Engineering, writing clear requirements and acceptance criteria, and keeping product decisions separate from technical design.
- Experience making build-or-buy decisions and managing third-party vendors, including integration, cost and performance expectations.
- Hands-on experience delivering automation or machine learning in a regulated setting, with defined evaluation methods, human oversight and post-deployment monitoring.
- Comfort using data to find problems and measure results, for example alert volumes, false positive rates, case handling times and customer drop-off.
- Clear communication with senior stakeholders in Compliance, Operations and Engineering, and the judgement to make trade-offs between risk, customer impact and delivery effort visible.
Nice to have
- Experience in online brokerage, trading platforms, payments or digital banking.
- Familiarity with financial crime vendors and tools for screening, identity verification, transaction monitoring or case management.
- Experience launching products or entering new markets under different regulators.
