Head of Growth

Open 15d

Summary

Lead growth strategy for SimpleStudy, an AI-powered study platform, allocating resources across global markets and channels to drive user acquisition and engagement.

Head of Growth:

Company:

SimpleStudy is where students go to learn and connect. The Strava for School. The company just closed a $4M seed round, with 1.5M + students across five primary markets: UK, Ireland, Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. Over ~40,000 new students join every week. The team is ~20 people, operating remotely with an office in Lisbon.

Notable investors include the first investors in Facebook and Revolut, as well as the founders of Strava and Intercom. The company is lean, product-obsessed, and deliberately not a typical education company — it's built consumer-first, with heavy PLG and A/B testing culture. 1 in 4 students in Ireland already use the product, and they want to do that for several hundred million students around the world.

Who We're Looking For

Whether you're an Ex-founder, built entire business lines, led teams, or scaled something before that ended in flames. We’re interested in someone who wants to be at the table, leading growth across the business, enabling us to capitalise on the PMF that we’ve found, and exploit the opportunities we’ve already created. SimpleStudy has achieved breakout success in an industry defined by difficulty, and now we’re looking for someone to convert founder-led PMF into an operationally excellent organisation that can scale. Someone who doesn’t want to be a cog in a machine, but actually put the machine together and steer it.

Why Join Us?

  • You’d like to work directly with the company's founders, in a highly trusted role with complete transparency across the company.

  • Broken things piss you off, and you want to have the authority to make things that work. Be rewarded for systematisation, have the freedom to fix things where other companies shrug.

  • You want to work with amazing people who mutually challenge each other, who want you to be the best version of yourself, professionally and personally.

  • You want to work in a venture-backed startup that is aiming for ludicrous success and an extreme outlier outcome, while building a better world with a platform that helps millions of young people.

  • You want to work alongside the leadership team in person in Lisbon—young people who value energy, excellence, creativity, problem-solving, fitness, and respect.

What you'll do

  • Work directly with the founder (me) to run half the company, set defaults, and transform it. Where harder problems come up, you point the founder at problems to crack them.

  • Own all growth teams and channels across all markets.

  • Organise, operationalise, systematise, process, -wizardise your domains into a highly functional, well-oiled machine.

  • Manage team leads, challenge them, set objectives, create reports and roadmaps, and define goals.

  • Think critically about how a multi-channel, multi-team growth organisation can be built and run in an AI-native environment.

  • Build a machine that moves fast, clean, and smooth, that knows where it is and why. Where there are easy wins, we chase them and exploit them. Where there’s basics, you make sure we’re already doing them. Where there should be process, you’ve defined them; where there are team roadmaps, you greenlight them. Where there should be hierarchy of focus, you set it. Where you’re doing too much, you know how to get your team’s to step up and can show them the way.

What You Need

  • Existing understanding of growth pillars and channels in modern software businesses

  • Experience in either consumer or multi-channel marketing-heavy businesses.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in startup roles with similar skills.

  • Proven experience in messy, fast-moving, early-stage startup.

  • Demonstrable ability to distil complexity and reduce noise into clear steps and systems you’re responsible for running smoothly.

  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills that are natural to you.

  • Discipline in organisational skills and ensuring it from others.

  • Brutally high standards. You have discernment and taste; you know when something is mid and say it.

  • Systems thinking for what we are actually doing, why, how, measurement, cadence, who’s accountable, when it is done, repeatably across the org.

  • Strong commercial, business-driven heuristics for decision-making.

  • Intrapersonal skills and experience managing others.
