Head of Internal Control

Our client, a reputable Microfinance Bank, is seeking an experienced Head of Internal Control to lead its internal control function. This role is responsible for strengthening the Bank's control environment, ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating operational risks, and driving a culture of accountability across the organization.
The ideal candidate is highly hands-on, detail-oriented, and possesses strong experience in internal control, audit, and risk management within the banking sector.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and strengthen the Bank's internal control framework.
- Plan and execute risk-based internal audits across business units.
- Ensure compliance with CBN, NDIC, and other regulatory requirements.
- Identify control gaps, operational risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate fraud, policy breaches, and control failures.
- Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and policy updates.
- Prepare internal control reports for Executive Management and the Board.
- Coordinate regulatory examinations and external audits.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Internal Control team.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, CIA, CISA, or CPA is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5–10 years' experience in Internal Control, Audit, or Risk Management within a Microfinance Bank or Deposit Money Bank.
- Strong understanding of banking operations, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven experience identifying risks, improving processes, and implementing effective controls.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and stakeholder management skills.
- Candidates must be willing to obtain the Microfinance Certified Practitioner (MCP) certification within one year if not already certified.
