Head Swim Team Coach
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, responsible for the operation of the swim team including organizing, completing assigned tasks, communicating with parents, and working with swimmers. The Head Swim Team Coach must present an appearance and an image consistent with the Schenectady JCC. Must possess mature judgment and sound decision-making. The Head Swim Team Coach must have the ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner, and must be capable of maintaining harmonious relationships with staff, participants, and the general public. The Head Coach will also help guide assistant coaches in these areas. Availability: Mondays & Wednesdays 4-6 pm, October 2026-March 2027.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise swimmers during practices, meets and any other swim times.
- Teach proper stroke techniques while coaching.
- Handles all swim meet preparation, including equipment set-up.
- Distributes awards.
- Leads daily practices.
- Create line-ups for all swim meets.
- Assists with the preparation, operation and clean-up of home swim meets.
- Works with the assistant coaches on time management, practice structure, award distribution procedures, record keeping for swimmers, and overall aptitude for coaching.
- Works with all coaches on meet set-up, line-ups, creation of workouts, practice development, and awards.
- Serves as the primary communicator to the Aquatic Director, assistant coaches, parents, and swimmers.
- Attends and participates in coaches’ meetings.
- Records swimmers’ meet results.
- Coordinates swim meet volunteers for home swim meets.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
- Performs the job in compliance with JCC policies, procedures, and work rules.
- Reports unusual maintenance problems or irregularities to the Aquatics Director or Campus Director.
- May need to perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the JCC safety program, with specific attention to safe pool use during swim team periods.
- Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.
