Job Overview

The Head, Thought Leadership and Communications shapes how the organization tells its story, strengthens corporate governance standards, and champions professional development for its members. This executive leader oversees content strategy across all channels, drives advocacy efforts, and positions the organization as a trusted, authoritative voice among its members, boards, and the broader non-profit sector.

Core Responsibilities

Communications

  • Produce recurring communications, including monthly newsletters and weekly or ad hoc Electronic Direct Mailers (EDMs), keeping members and stakeholders regularly updated on organizational activities
  • Support programme and event materials: drafting programme descriptions for courses, events, and initiatives; preparing bios and invitations for speakers, guests-of-honor, or profiled individuals; and writing letters, including thank-you letters, on an ad hoc basis

Reports

  • Coordinate flagship and recurring reports: Annual Report (annual), Corporate Governance Report (annual), Council minutes (quarterly/in session), Statements of Good Practice (ad hoc), and SID Handbook (annual)
  • Manage governance guides and contribute to cross-partner guides, including the Board Appointment Guide for Charities
  • Oversee indices and scorecards, including the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index
  • Manage partner-led and one-off reports — ASEAN Board Trends, Stakeholder Engagement Survey, APAC Governance Outlook, Singapore Workplace Report, and Pulse surveys — including coordinating launch events, media coverage, and speaker/panel participation
  • Provide input on which reports to prioritise or develop as flagship, including evaluating opportunities such as regional expansion of the Singapore Directorship Report

Publications

  • Produce the SID Directors Bulletin (quarterly) and the Boardroom Matters column in Business Times
  • Produce annual thought-leadership publications, including the Conference booklet and Golf booklet
  • Maintain past one-off publications

Media Relations

  • Produce press releases, speeches, and talking points on an ad hoc basis

Advocacy

  • Coordinate regulatory advocacy, including public consultations, feedback, and focus group discussions
  • Participate in an annual global virtual conference and contribute to its global surveys (e.g. sustainability and AI reports)

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Policy, Journalism, or a related field

Experience

  • Min 10 years of progressive experience in communications and thought leadership
  • A proven track record within professional associations, governance institutions, or non-profit organizations

Skills

  • Governance fluency — solid grasp of board structures, fiduciary duties, and how non-profit organizations operate
  • Storytelling — ability to turn complex regulatory or educational information into clear, engaging, plain-language content
  • Influence — diplomatic skill in aligning different stakeholder groups, board members, and industry partners
  • Leadership — experience guiding cross-functional teams, including researchers and communications or PR support
