Description

Take the next step in your Health & Safety career with a growing civil infrastructure contractor.

We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a well-established civil contracting business delivering essential infrastructure projects across New Zealand.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being out on site, building strong relationships with operational teams, and making a genuine impact on safety performance — rather than simply managing paperwork from behind a desk.

The Opportunity

As Health & Safety Advisor, and reporting to a Senior Delivery Manager you’ll work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Site Managers and subcontractors to promote a strong, practical safety culture across a range of civil construction projects.

You’ll provide advice and support across the full project lifecycle, helping teams identify risks, implement effective controls and continually improve their approach to health and safety.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing practical H&S advice and support across multiple civil construction sites
  • Conducting site inspections, audits and safety observations
  • Supporting incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Identifying hazards and assisting teams to develop effective risk controls
  • Supporting toolbox meetings, inductions and worker engagement initiatives
  • Monitoring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and company procedures
  • Assisting with the development and review of H&S documentation, systems and processes
  • Working alongside project teams to improve safety performance and reduce risk
  • Building positive relationships with employees, subcontractors and clients
  • Contributing to ongoing improvement of the company's health and safety culture

About you

We’re looking for someone who is practical, approachable and confident working in a construction environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • 3+ years' experience in a Health & Safety role, preferably within civil construction, infrastructure or utilities
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand H&S legislation and construction-related risks
  • Experience conducting site inspections, audits and incident investigations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • The confidence to challenge unsafe practices and influence positive change
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to health and safety
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A relevant H&S qualification or equivalent experience

Why join?

This is an opportunity to join a business where Health & Safety is genuinely valued and where you'll have the opportunity to influence how safety is delivered on the ground.

You'll work alongside experienced construction professionals, have exposure to a variety of civil infrastructure projects, and play an important role in continuing to develop the company's safety systems and culture.

If you're looking for a role where you're more than just the person who completes the paperwork — and want to be part of a team where your advice can directly make a difference — we'd like to hear from you.

Call Rob on 09 888 3796 for a confidential discussion about the opportunity or apply below.
