Description

Turner Staffing Group is hiring a Health & Safety Specialist to support a mining client's exploration drilling programs and field work near Elko, Nevada. You'll be a Turner Staffing Group employee working on the client's site. This is a hands-on field role: more than 70% of your time will be onsite. You'll provide H&S oversight at active drill sites, check that critical controls are in place, and help contractors and crews work safely.

What You'll Do

Field Oversight & Verification

  • Inspect drill rigs and work areas against drilling and corporate H&S standards, and track findings until they're closed out
  • Complete critical control verifications for fatal risks and life-saving controls covering drilling, light vehicles and field work
  • Lead or attend pre-start meetings and toolbox talks, and deliver site-specific safety briefings
  • Observe and coach field-level risk assessments

Contractor Management

  • Deliver H&S onboarding and site orientation for new contractors and personnel
  • Verify that contractors follow client standards and their own approved safety plans
  • Check training and competency records on site against the training and competence matrix

Risk & Emergency Readiness

  • Review formal risk assessments for new or changing field activities and flag gaps
  • Verify emergency readiness at each site: ERP posted and current, communication devices working, first aid and fire equipment in place, and evacuation routes known
  • Take part in or lead emergency drills at field sites

Incidents, Reporting & Compliance

  • Encourage near-miss and hazard reporting, and submit inspection, observation and incident data on time
  • Send weekly field H&S updates to the regional safety lead
  • Support compliance with federal, state and local regulations (OSHA, MSHA and state-specific requirements) during field work

Location: Onsite near Elko, NV (field-based)

Assignment: Temporary, about 6 months

Schedule: Monday–Friday. May sometimes require a rotational or extended schedule.

Travel: Per diem and/or travel provided. Candidates from outside the area are welcome to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of H&S experience in mining, exploration, drilling or heavy industry, with significant time in field or site-based roles
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA requirements for exploration and field work
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Experience driving 4WD vehicles on unpaved and remote roads
  • Able to work in remote locations, in variable weather and terrain, and on a rotational or extended field schedule when needed
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Geology or a related field. Equivalent field H&S experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with drilling operations (diamond core and/or RC)
  • Experience overseeing contractors
