Health & Safety Advisor (WA/SA/NT)
Summary
Field-based health and safety advisor visiting retail stores in WA/SA/NT to implement safety policies, conduct inspections, and lead incident investigations.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Team Lead, the Health and Safety Advisor will provide effective safety and risk management support across the organisation to achieve a proactive safety management system.
This role is based in WA and is a field role spending 3-4 days of the week visiting stores. This role will have the flexibility to work from stores and home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development and implementation of relevant and effective policies, procedures and strategies that reduce safety risks, reduce financial impacts, ensure compliance and demonstrate continuous improvement of safety results
- Contribute to development and facilitation of information, training and coaching to increase skills, knowledge and awareness of legislation and obligations for key stakeholders
- Provide advice and coaching on workplace health and safety and partnering with operational teams to identify hazards and implement effective controls.
- Lead incident investigations for incidents and injuries, driving meaningful corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Conduct workplace inspections and safety observations across business sites.
- Drive engagement with store teams across multiple sites to ensure compliance with safety activities and projects and achievement of key safety objectives
- Establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with all key stakeholders
- Monitor safety performance and manage all safety incidents and hazards across designated business areas.
- Take proactive steps to identify risks, prevent incidents and implement appropriate control that ensures legislative compliance.
- Provide required data and statistics for monthly safety reporting
- Work collaboratively with the Safety Coordinator to ensure safety standards, risk assessments, audits, training, incident investigations and corrective actions are compliant with each state’s legislative requirements
- Participate in ad hoc projects as required
- Tertiary or working towards qualifications in Work Health & Safety or a related business discipline (desirable)
- At least 1 year experience in a role with key health and safety responsibilities
- Proven ability to influence leaders and engage teams to take ownership of safety and embed into operations.
- Ability to operate effectively both collaboratively and autonomously, building strong working relationships while managing priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Risk Management experience including safety risk assessments and making recommendations to control risks
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Occupational Healthy Safety Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and relevant governing bodies
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with experience with incident investigations, identifying underlying causes, and developing practical solutions that reduce risk, improve operational effectiveness, and strengthen safety outcomes.
- Retail experience desirable
