Health System Specialist - System Redesign Coordinator

The Systems Redesign Coordinator directs the development, implementation, and sustainment of the Systems Redesign and Improvement (SR&I) Program within the VA Central Iowa Health Care System. The position serves as a technical and analytical advisor to facility leadership, applying improvement science and systems redesign principles to inform operational decisions, resolve process inefficiencies, and align improvement activities with VHA, VISN, and facility priorities.

Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Systems Redesign (60%) Leads advanced data analysis and contributes to multidisciplinary teams, task forces, and learning groups to diagnose operational issues, identify system constraints, and support development of data driven solutions. Applies Lean and related improvement methodologies to assess current processes, implement targeted interventions, and evaluate gains, best practices, and long term sustainment strategies that improve reliability and Veteran outcomes. Performs comprehensive analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to quality, safety, access, value, and Veteran experience to inform improvement priorities. Develops data driven improvement initiatives, prepares findings and recommendations for leadership review, and develops structured implementation plans. Utilizes advanced analytical tools, statistical methods, and improvement frameworks to support organizational projects and strategic priorities. Provides analytical and technical support to interdisciplinary teams across the continuum of care to strengthen planning, execution, and sustainment of improvement work. Researches emerging evidence based practices, benchmarks, and industry standards to identify opportunities to advance facility performance. Conducts program management activities that ensure coordination, standardization, and effective application of Systems Redesign methodologies. Provides project management leadership for improvement initiatives, including scoping, planning, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and monitoring of milestones and deliverables. Applies expert knowledge of Systems Redesign and Lean principles to coach and mentor staff and teams in the use of structured improvement tools. Generates data supported findings and insights to facilitate informed decision making by leadership. Conducts gap analyses to identify organizational performance needs and advises leadership on actions to strengthen and sustain improvement infrastructure. Integrates validated practices and performance results into reports and briefings to ensure leadership has accurate, actionable information. Serves as a subject matter expert in Systems Redesign and process improvement, providing consultation, technical guidance, and analytical expertise across the organization. Refines and adapts improvement models, tools, and methodologies to ensure standardized, scalable, and effective practices across SR&I activities. Manages complex projects, including the design and delivery of Systems Redesign and improvement education initiatives for leadership and staff. Training and Education (30%) Delivers training in virtual, one on one, and classroom settings using established SR&I instructional standards to ensure consistent and high quality learning experiences. Develops training materials tailored to diverse audiences and incorporates industry standards, analytical tools, and process improvement frameworks to build staff capability. Conducts analysis of quality, efficiency, effectiveness, and resource utilization data to strengthen Systems Redesign training programs. Designs and enhances training strategies that ensure leaders and staff are equipped with effective process improvement, systems redesign, and project management tools. Applies adult learning principles to design and deliver instructional content, evaluates training effectiveness, and performs return on investment and expectations analyses. Facilitates individual and group performance improvement activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Prepares briefings, reports, charts, and statistical materials that clearly communicate program objectives, performance insights, and outcomes. Produces standardized reports and dashboards that enable leadership to assess system wide progress and evaluate improvement initiatives. Customer Service Consultation (10%) Responds to requests from leadership, staff, and stakeholders and provides subject matter expertise on improvement methodologies, data interpretation, and operational processes. Delivers clear, actionable recommendations based on improvement principles, analytical findings, policy interpretation, and patient flow assessments. Represents Systems Redesign programs by identifying organizational needs and translating them into actionable improvement initiatives. Identifies system improvement opportunities and resolves complex issues through the application of structured performance improvement strategies. Performs other duties as assigned.
