Summary
Provides daily personal care and assistance to elderly residents in a nursing home, including hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
Position: Healthcare Assistant
Reports to: Enrolled Nurse / Nursing Aide
Job Description
- Prepares residents for baths and to bathe them.
- Assists residents who need help to the toilets/bath rooms.
- Performs personal hygiene duties for residents
- Transfers residents to dining area and to bed.
- Cleans and tidies residents after their meals.
- Tidies up residents’ beds daily.
- Changes bed linen weekly or whenever necessary.
- Checks and changes diapers (only when soiled) every 4 hours and when necessary.
- Helps in the serving of meals, feeding of residents and clearing of used crockery.
- Sends residents to and from dining area, rehabilitation room and to their dormitories.
- Attends to all residents needs/call bells.
- Delivers soiled/used linen to the laundry area before off duty.
- Distributes commodes/urinals/bedpans to residents who require them at night.
- Reports any incidents or any obvious physical body change to EN/NA.
- Makes frequent rounds to ensure residents are comfortable and resting on bed.
- Fills up pitchers with boiled water in morning.
- Assists Activities Coordinator to conduct games / social recreational activities with residents.
- Attends In-House monthly Training Programmes, so as to update and upgrade own knowledge and skills.
- Attends monthly Clinical Staff meetings, so as to be updated on the latest happenings in the Nursing Home.
- Any other duties as directed by the Nurse Manager/Director of Nursing, as and whenever required.
Qualifications/Work Experience
- Preferably Basic Cardiac Life Support Trained
- Relevant Nursing qualification, e.g. Caregiver Certificate (Nursing)
- At least 1 year of working experience in similar position in a Nursing Home.
- Able to communicate with all levels of staff.
