Healthcare Working Supervisor Night Shift, Co. Dublin

Derrycourt Cleaning Specialists has an exciting opportunity for an experienced healthcare cleaning professional to take the next step in their career, combining their practical cleaning expertise with leadership responsibility.

Role Purpose

The healthcare overnight working supervisor is responsible for leading and participating in the delivery of specialist cleaning services across critical clinical and high-risk areas during the night shift.

The role combines operational supervision with hands-on cleaning duties, ensuring patient care environments are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and safety.

The successful candidate will oversee overnight cleaning operations within Theatres, Emergency Department, Cath Labs, Radiotherapy and designated common areas, while coordinating and directing the activities of the Overnight Janitor.

The position operates on an approximate 60% operational cleaning and 40% supervisory basis.

Who We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have experience working within high-risk healthcare environments and previous experience leading or supervising staff.

They will be reliable, organised and capable of working independently during overnight operations while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and customer service.

Experience within acute hospital settings, particularly Theatres, Emergency Departments, Cath Labs or Laboratories, is highly desirable. Healthcare cleaning qualifications, such as BICSc certification, would be advantageous.

Key Accountabilities

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee all cleaning activities across assigned clinical areas, including:
• • Operating Theatres
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories (Cath Labs)
  • Radiotherapy Department
  • Other designated high-risk clinical areas
  • Assigned common and public areas
• Allocate work schedules and daily tasks to the Overnight Janitor and ensure completion to the required standards.
• Monitor cleaning quality through regular inspections and corrective actions where required.
• Ensure all cleaning tasks are completed in accordance with hospital policies, infection prevention requirements and Derrycourt procedures.
• Act as the primary overnight point of contact for cleaning-related issues and service requests.
• Escalate operational issues, equipment failures, incidents, defects and staffing concerns to management.
• Provide on-the-job guidance, training and coaching to team members.
• Complete required documentation, records and shift handovers accurately and on time.
• Monitor and maintain stock levels of cleaning chemicals, consumables and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with uniform, attendance and workplace standards.

Operational Cleaning Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist overnight cleaning activities across assigned clinical areas.
• Undertake scheduled and reactive cleaning duties within assigned departments.
• Carry out cleaning and disinfection procedures in accordance with healthcare cleaning specifications.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
• Support terminal, enhanced and deep-cleaning activities as required.
• Ensure all areas are prepared and available for clinical operations each morning.

Health, Safety & Infection Prevention

• Adhere to all hospital, Derrycourt and statutory health and safety requirements.
• Follow all infection prevention and control procedures.
• Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals in accordance with COSHH guidelines.
• Report accidents, incidents, hazards and near misses immediately.
• Participate in all mandatory training and compliance programmes.
• Ensure emergency procedures are understood and followed by all overnight staff.

Essential Requirements

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years' experience within a healthcare cleaning environment.
• Demonstrated experience cleaning high-risk clinical environments.
• Previous experience working within one or more of the following:
• • Operating Theatres
  • Emergency Department
  • Critical Care or similar acute healthcare settings
• Previous experience leading or supervising staff.
• Experience working night shifts in a healthcare environment.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of infection prevention and healthcare cleaning practices.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage workloads and prioritise tasks effectively.
• Strong communication and team leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions during out-of-hours operations.
• Good record-keeping and administrative skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a busy hospital environment.

Mandatory Training & Qualifications

• Infection Prevention & Control Training.
• Healthcare Cleaning Training.
• BICSc certification or willingness to obtain.
• Manual Handling.
• Chemical Safety / COSHH Awareness.
• Any client-specific mandatory training requirements.
• Death-in-Service Benefit, subject to eligibility.
