PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Healthy Lifestyle Manager will assist in the planning and implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson (BGCC) Playworks program. The Healthy Lifestyles manager will train and oversee Youth Development Professional (YDP)-Recess Coaches, maintain strong relationships with school partners, and support the Director of Healthy Lifestyles to develop new trainings for program staff, and facilitate the implementation of any new or modified programming. This position is based in Carson working with Gardena and Carson schools.


KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Program Development and Implementation

  • Supervise, train, coach, and support program staff across multiple school sites.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Playworks program, including its goals, components, and outcomes.
  • Support the Director of Healthy Lifestyles in curriculum development, implementation, and school partnership renewal efforts.
  • Assist with school kickoff meetings and the development of site-specific recess goals.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate trainings for BGCC staff, school personnel, and teacher program orientations.
  • Create and maintain systems for collecting program updates, data, and required documentation from Recess YDPs.
  • Model BGCC core values, effective program implementation, behavior management, and relationship-building strategies.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Director of Healthy Lifestyles and Recess YDPs regarding program updates, needs, and concerns.
  • Conduct site visits to observe program implementation, provide coaching, deliver equipment and supplies, and attend meetings and trainings.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes student participation, learning, and positive social interaction.
  • Manage program equipment and supply inventories, including ordering, storage, maintenance, and monthly reconciliation reporting.
  • Promote participation and engagement in program activities, including supporting the recruitment and registration of Junior Coaches.
  • Respond to and resolve program-related questions and concerns from principals, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate program performance to ensure services meet participant needs, maintain quality standards, and operate effectively.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program data to support continuous improvement and program success.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate administrative records and documentation.
  • Assist with daily program operations and onsite support as needed.
  • Participate in regular meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision & Staff Management

  • Communicate regularly with school leadership regarding program implementation, quality, scheduling, training, site visits, and operational needs.
  • Conduct routine program observations, site visits, and data reviews to ensure high-quality programming and compliance with program expectations.
  • Provide timely coaching, feedback, and observation summaries to Recess YDPs and the Director of Healthy Lifestyles.
  • Evaluate Recess YDP performance and oversee curriculum implementation to ensure staff meet established expectations and responsibilities.
  • Support the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of Recess YDPs.
  • Review, edit, and approve staff timesheets in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized program environment.
  • Assist in developing injury-prevention practices and responding to injury-related concerns.
  • Track staff performance, coaching needs, and employee relations matters, communicating concerns to the Director of Healthy Lifestyles and Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Participate in regular unit and organization-wide staff meetings to support collaboration, communication, and a positive work environment.

Relationships

  • Maintains close, daily contact with staff to interpret and explain organization mission, program objectives, discuss issues, and provides/receives information.
  • Maintains contact with schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May participate in special programs and/or events.
  • May be required to help in other program areas.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
