Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains and repairs vehicles, equipment and tools

• Conducts daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
• Performs minor repairs and maintains equipment and vehicles.
• Performs shop safety inspections and conducts shop inventory.
• Ensures compliance with DOT safety regulations.

Operates equipment including, but not limited to, trucks, trailers, loaders, snow removal equipment, sanding equipment, backhoes, forklifts, road graders, skid steer loaders, mowers, tractors, welders and others to maintain and repair county roads, ditches, bridges and land.

• Maintains records of origin, destination of materials and time of delivery.
• Performs blading on county roads; levels and spreads gravel.
• Removes and installs culverts.
• Responds to natural disasters, highway hazards and highway emergencies.
• Clears road debris, such as rocks, deer, and trees.
• Operates snow plows and other heavy equipment to remove snow, ice and storm debris from County roadways and applies ice control materials.
• Sets up locates for utilities.
• Shoulders, patches, gravels and repairs roads.

Performs related duties

• Performs demolition and removal of tax forfeited properties.
• Monitors road conditions, reports damage and hazards to supervisor.
• Attends continuing education and training opportunities.
• Responds to questions or concerns of the general public.
• Other duties as apparent or assigned.
