The Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex heavy mobile equipment and automotive vehicles at Goodfellow AFB. The role involves using diagnostic tools, fabricating parts, and ensuring all work adheres to safety regulations.

The primary purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, modify, and maintain a variety and types of heavy mobile and automotive equipment some of which are very complex and are comprised of interrelated systems. Work assignments can present unusually difficult problems.
- Performs heavy mobile equipment mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and maintaining equipment such as, fire-crash trucks, 50,000 (50K) pound capacity container handlers, bulldozers, power shovels, road graders, mobile cranes, and special purpose equipment. - Performs automotive mechanic work including troubleshooting malfunctions, determining the type and extent of repair required, repairing, and maintaining vehicles including forklifts, tow tractors, truck tractors and trailers, sweeper trucks, wreckers, busses, vans, ambulances, pickup trucks, and sedans. - Uses diagnostic tools, orders parts, completes documentation, and provides training and assistance to others. - Designs, fabricates, alters, and locally manufactures parts. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safeand clean work environment.
