This position is located in District 04/Unit 550 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent of Caddo Parish. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain licensing in the following areas Class A CDL License.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Experience in any combination of the qualifying fields will be accepted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Supervises a 3–6 member highway maintenance crew, assigning and coordinating daily road maintenance, repair, and emergency response activities while operating and overseeing the safe use of heavy equipment.

  • Plans, schedules, and monitors maintenance projects in coordination with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent, ensuring timely completion of road repairs, traffic control, drainage maintenance, and other highway operations.

  • Oversees employee performance, completes annual CPM evaluations, coordinates training, and serves in the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent's role during absences.

  • Ensures proper maintenance and repair of assigned equipment while maintaining accurate documentation of labor, equipment, materials, maintenance activity codes, and daily work records in electronic reporting systems.

  • Responds to public concerns and emergency situations on a 24-hour basis, supporting disaster response operations and ensuring the safety of the traveling public.

This position requires a Class "A" CDL before appointment.
