Job Title: Housekeeper

Department: Environmental Services

Job Summary: Performs duties involved in cleaning and sanitizing furnishings and areas assigned. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases; may be in contact with patients under a variety of circumstances; may be occasionally subject to irregular hours; may be required to wear protective equipment as necessary.

Job Qualifications:

A. Education: High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: CPI required.

D. Experience:

1. Prior work experience: Preferred previous hospital setting housekeeping experience.

2. Technical Training: None required.

· Physical and Mental Requirements: Position requires extended periods of walking and standing. Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Frequently pushing and pulling up to 300 pounds on carts. Continuously bending, stooping and reaching in storing supplies and in cleaning activities. Sufficient ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English to complete work efficiently, effectively, and courteously.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Conducts job duties in accordance with department procedures.

B. Fills and cleans dispensers, maintains and replenishes supplies, and properly mixes chemicals as necessary for cleaning process.

C. Maintains cleaning carts in accordance with established procedures and chemicals are never left unattended.

D. Assures the hospital is maintained in a clean and representative manner by performance of environmental rounds. Completion of defined cleaning routines, removal of soiled linens and waste products in accordance with infection control procedures and established policies and procedures.

E. Areas of responsibility are maintained in accordance with cleaning routines as evidenced by supervisor review on a periodic basis.

F. Collects soiled linen.

G. Washes, dries, and prepares linen for re-issue.

H. Delivers clean linen to user departments.

I. Shows the ability to locate the appropriate SDS for the product and identify the personal protective equipment necessary to be able to use the product used for cleaning.

J. Safely and effectively operates vacuum cleaner.

K. Maintains written records of rooms cleaned and turns in at the end of each shift.
