About the Department
Housing Supports is based out of the main Emergency Shelter, and the team works with all shelter guests to help them with rental searches, subsidized housing applications, and referrals through Coordinated Access & Assessment (which is the process used via Calgary Homeless Foundation to streamline housing needs throughout the system of care). The main goal of Housing Supports is to find safe, affordable and sustainable housing that meets the needs of the people we serve.
What You’ll Do
Every role at the DI makes a difference. In this position, you will:
Champion guest housing success by developing personalized, guest-driven housing plans using creative engagement strategies, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and Housing First principles to help guests achieve sustainable housing outcomes.
Empower and advocate for guests by removing barriers to housing, navigating supports such as identification, income assistance, transit passes, taxes, and housing applications, while providing outreach, attending appointments, and advocating with housing providers and community partners.
Build strong collaborative relationships with guests, housing providers, and internal teams to ensure seamless continuity of care, monitor progress toward housing goals, adapt plans to evolving needs, and drive positive outcomes through regular case reviews and coordinated support.
Drive accurate and impactful case management by maintaining detailed guest records, tracking engagement efforts and progress toward housing goals, managing housing plans, and documenting incidents and key observations to support positive guest outcomes.
Support program excellence and accountability by reporting critical incidents in accordance with policy, collecting and maintaining data to meet funding and reporting requirements, and preparing timely reports that inform program performance and decision-making.
Serve as a collaborative community champion by building strong partnerships through community engagement, sharing valuable knowledge of programs and resources that foster guest independence, supporting landlord mediation when needed, and actively embodying and promoting the organization's mission, values, and standards in every interaction.

What we need from you
Experience working in distress and/or high-stress situations, which may include emergency response.
Keen eye for detail and a penchant for accuracy
The ability to make sound rational decisions based on information provided and employ critical thinking where information may not be clear.
Strong customer service orientation would be ideal
High morals, ethics, and integrity
Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management and organizational skills including the ability to deal with several priorities at the same time
Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiating skills
Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
Must be acceptable of industry risks, including coming into contact with bodily fluids
Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
A genuine commitment to the mission, vision, values, and work of the agency.
Nice to Have’s
Completion of a post-secondary program (bachelor’s degree or diploma) in human services, community support worker, social service worker, or health-related discipline is preferred
Previous work experience in a social service environment or similar role may replace formal education requirement
Three to five years’ experience working in the homeless serving sector is preferred
A clean, valid class 5 driver's license (must be at least 25 years of age) and a willingness to transport clients with agency vehicles is preferred
Experience working in a shift work environment preferred
