THE MANDATE
India is one of our fastest-growing markets, and it is ready for a People function of its own. This is the first time we are putting a dedicated HR Business Partner on the ground here.
You would build it: the processes, the manager relationships, and the way People works across our Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai teams and the operations colleagues in the cities beyond them.
You would report directly into our Senior HRBP in Kuala Lumpur, with no layer in between, and you would run India.
This is a build role rather than a maintain-the-machine one. If you have wanted to shape a country People function instead of inheriting somebody else's, this is that seat.
A core measure of success: Twelve months in, India has a People function that runs on its own — documented processes, managers who know exactly who to call, and compliance that stands up to IPO-grade scrutiny.
A DAY IN A LIFE
At Teleport, we’re building toward IPO — and that means doing the boring things well. Execution, discipline, and follow-through matter as much as big ideas.
Your day will be varied, often crossing functions, but most of your time will focus on delivering results, owning your scope end-to-end, making fast, data-informed decisions, and following through on fundamentals like reporting, documentation, and processes.
How we work matters as much as what we achieve. Doing the basics right, every time, sets us up for success.
Most of your time will be spent driving impact through:
Business partnering
- Advising line managers on live employee issues, annual reviews, career conversations, performance concerns and sensitive communications.
- Acting as trusted advisor and advocate through talent discussions, probation reviews, performance improvement plans and managed departures.
- Serving as the primary People contact for India leadership, and resolving escalations before they become risk.
Employee lifecycle ownership
- Owning delivery and accountability across the full lifecycle: onboarding, disciplinary, grievance, leave, policy enforcement, career transitions, performance management and exits.
- Constituting and servicing the Internal Committee under the POSH Act at every qualifying workplace, briefing the external member, and keeping the annual District Officer filing current.
- Owning the India holiday calendar, and the attendance and roster policy for our shift-based populations.
Statutory and payroll
- Holding India statutory compliance end-to-end: EPFO, ESIC, professional tax, gratuity and Shops & Establishments registrations in every state we operate in.
- Reconciling local payroll and HRIS against Workday as the group system of record, and keeping the two honest.
- Carrying India through the Labour Codes transition, including the wage-definition impact on provident fund and gratuity cost.
- Keeping the contingent workforce clean: consultant classification, and principal-employer obligations wherever contract labour supports our airport and operations sites.
Requirements
These are minimum-requirement skills and a ‘must-have’ for the role:
- You will travel, and it is built into the role. Regular, planned presence at the Zeal office at the Delhi airport and at the Gurugram office, and at Chennai or Kolkata where the work calls for it. Our operations people work at sites, not at desks, and the People partner they trust is the one they see.
- Professional fluency in English and Hindi. A South Indian or Bengali language is an advantage, not a requirement.
- You have owned India statutory compliance yourself — EPFO, ESIC, professional tax, gratuity, Shops & Establishments — across more than one state, and can walk us through a filing or a reconciliation you personally fixed. Supervising a vendor who did it is not the same thing.
- You have run POSH as the accountable person: constituted an Internal Committee, briefed an external member, handled a complaint end-to-end and filed the annual return.
- You have handled the harder end of Indian employee relations — non-confirmations, performance exits, misconduct, contract labour issues — and can explain how you kept the individual's dignity and the company's evidentiary position intact at the same time.
- You are comfortable being the only HR person in the room. The rest of the function sits in Kuala Lumpur.
- Organised and methodical, with strong problem solving. Clear written English — this role produces letters, case files and papers that are read by group leadership and, occasionally, by lawyers.
