Summary

The HR Generalist provides day-to-day human resources support to employees and management across a broad range of HR functions. This position serves as a first point of contact for employee questions and provides timely, accurate assistance related to benefits, leave administration, onboarding, employment documentation, and HR policies and procedures. The HR Generalist supports the organization’s employee lifecycle from new hire onboarding through ongoing employment while maintaining confidentiality, compliance, and accurate HR records. The HR Generalist will provide other support as directed by the Human Resources Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Provide customer service by assisting employees with questions or providing assistance to employees regarding HR resources.
  • Provide administrative support for the Human Resources Department. Screen phone inquiries, schedule interviews/meetings, maintain employee files, prepare correspondence and assist with document retention policies. Make copies, process mail, compile reports, and fax or scan documents.
  • Process new hire paperwork.
  • Perform employment verifications, background screenings and schedule pre-employment drug tests and physicals.
  • Verify and maintain I-9 documentation.
  • Participate in benefits administration including change reporting, new employee enrollment and invoice approval.
  • Maintain FMLA records and distribute paperwork as required.
  • Assist in maintaining records in system including new hires and terminations.
  • Assist with termination processing and COBRA administration.
  • Provide recruitment support as directed.

Other Functions

  • Operate corporate multi-line telephone (Cisco IP Telephone System) by answering, screening or forwarding calls.
  • Assist with other duties assigned and directed by corporate management within the frame work of Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company, Inc.’s objectives.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of FMLA, COBRA, employee benefits, onboarding, and general HR practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and employee support skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment regarding when employee questions should be escalated to HR leadership or appropriate subject-matter experts.
  • Maintains confidentiality in oral and written communications.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of office machines, including copier, fax, and printer.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to meet commitments and deadlines.
  • Complete required documentation and reports in a timely manner.
  • Able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Demonstrates openness to new procedures, technology and structure.

Physical Requirements and Work Schedule

Employee must be able to do occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.

Education/Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 2–4 years of experience in human resources, benefits administration, HR operations, or a related field.
