Christian Aid Mission seeks to establish a witness for Christ in every nation by assisting indigenous ministries who are sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in some of the world’s most difficult mission fields, giving priority to ministries making disciples among unreached people groups. Today, we work with hundreds of indigenous ministries in eight regions of the world.
Position Overview
The Human Resources Generalist supports all areas of Human Resources for Christian Aid Mission (CAM) and assists the VP of Administration with HR administration as needed. The HR Generalist role includes processing bi-monthly payroll and related payroll reports, time management for all staff in HRIS (Paycor), responding to daily email requests for HR support, assistance with recruitment in ATS (Paycor), and onboarding and offboarding employees. This role assists with all compensation changes, and support with benefits administration. Other duties include support for annual performance management, and policy and procedure implementation in conjunction with employee handbook.
The HR Generalist is the first point of contact for approximately 40 staff for all general HR and payroll-related questions. This role creates a monthly HR newsletter and assists with coordinating all-staff events. The HR Generalist must be knowledgeable about employment laws, and maintains all staff data records in the HRIS including registering with states for remote employees. This role is the liaison for benefits administration, medical and other elected benefits (Employee Navigator) and 403b (EPIC).
This position reports to the VP of Administration and works a full-time (30 hours per week) Hybrid schedule with some days remote and other days in our Charlottesville, VA headquarters office each week. The salary range for this position is $25 - $26 per hour plus benefits, depending on experience.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintains accurate employee records in HRIS (Paycor) and electronic employee files.
  • Prepares semi-monthly payroll and processes related payroll reports.
  • Liaison between staff and benefits contacts (medical and 403b), assisting with the coverage questions and benefits enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Communicate with staff on a regular basis as needed, prepare HR monthly newsletter and be knowledgeable about Employee Handbook and current Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Maintain HR files for all staff to access resources electronically, including updating staff directories, benefits summaries, employee handbook, and organizational chart.
  • Support V.P. of Administration with recruiting process utilizing applicant tracking system for resume management, conducting phone screens, reference checks, and background checks.
  • Manages onboarding and offboarding checklists for new hires and terminations
  • Assist with preparation of Position Request Forms for compensation changes
  • Assist with coordination of annual assessment and goal setting process, keeping track of timelines, due dates, and proper filing of electronic documents.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws in VA and other states where employees reside.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated spiritual maturity and a growing relationship with the Lord, serving as a positive example of Christian character, faith, and servant leadership
  • Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates effective working relationships with other team members and departments.
  • 3 years or more experience in Human Resources or related position
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to prioritize time and strong project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of employee benefits administration
  • General knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws
  • Good judgment and discretion, with ability to appropriately maintain confidential information and dialogue
  • Ability to effectively assist with conflict resolution
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience with HRIS (Paycor or similar systems)
  • Demonstrated experience with integrated benefits administration systems (Employee Navigator, 403b (EPIC) or similar systems)
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred, related work experience will be considered.
