Position Summary and Purpose:

The Human Resources Generalist serves as a key member of the Human Resources team, providing day-to-day support to employees and leaders while helping foster a positive, engaged, and productive work environment. This role focuses primarily on employee relations, employee engagement, talent acquisition for hourly Operations positions, onboarding, and HR program
administration and project support.

Working closely with Operations leadership, the HR Generalist partners with supervisors and employees to address workplace concerns, support staffing needs, coordinate employee development activities, and ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures. This position plays an important role in attracting and retaining talent, supporting union and non-
union employee populations, and promoting a positive employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Serve as an employee relations resource, providing guidance and support on attendance, performance, conduct, workplace concerns, and policy/contract interpretation.
  • Conduct investigations and apply corrective action, including documentation and follow-up related to employee relations matters.
  • Assist in administering benefit programs and serve as a liaison for employees with benefit questions or concerns.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives including recognition programs, employee feedback efforts, wellness activities, and culture-building events.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts for hourly Operations positions, including posting jobs, sourcing candidates, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, extending offers, and supporting pre-employment activities.
  • Build and maintain talent pipelines for manufacturing, skilled trades, and other Operations positions to support workforce demands.
  • Partner closely with Operations leaders to understand staffing priorities, turnover trends, and workforce needs.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation activities to ensure new employee success.
  • Partner with supervisors to identify training needs and coordinate learning opportunities for employees. Assist in the development and delivery of training programs on HR topics.
  • Maintain HR records and employee documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support HR processes such as performance management, compensation planning, promotions, offboarding, and succession planning.
  • Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and EEOC regulations.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEOC).
  • Knowledge of HR best practices in employee relations, compensation, benefits, and organizational development.
  • Familiarity with union environments/labor relations and collective bargaining agreements, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS platforms and performance management systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicant tracking systems.
  • Understanding of payroll processing and benefits administration concepts (basic to intermediate level).
  • Knowledge of compliance and documentation standards, including personnel file management and audit readiness.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, coaching, and facilitating difficult conversations with empathy.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Ability to build trust through integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Embraces change and ambiguity with a proactive, adaptable mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Skilled in promoting a positive employee experience through collaboration, emotional intelligence, and a strong customer-service orientation.

    Education:

    • Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
    • Associates’ degree in a technical or business field; Bachelors’ degree in HR or business, or similar, a plus.
    • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
