Responsibilities

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with HR management in supporting all aspects of the department. This position carries out responsibilities including but not limited to the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance. This individual will perform full lifecycle recruiting and maintain excellent relations with hiring managers, candidates, and the community at-large. Also perform routine clerical, technical, and administrative assignments in human resources administration; to gather and compile data; enter information into database; to prepare, record and maintain human resources records; and to do other work as required.

Other responsibilities

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all company personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures. Recommends new approaches to promote continual improvements.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining affirmative action program; files EEO-1 report annually; maintain other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Establishes recruiting requirements by studying organization plans and objectives; meeting with managers to discuss needs.
  • Manage and maintain in-house Applicant Tracking System (iCIMS) to identify and recruit the very best candidates.
  • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students and temporary employees; writes and places advertisements.
  • Communicates and coordinates with vendors and recruiting agencies; maintaining all 3rd party contracts.
  • Builds applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, media, and internet sites; attending career fairs, providing organization information, opportunities, and benefits; making presentations; maintaining business rapport.
  • Determines applicant qualifications by interviewing applicants; analyzing responses; verifying references; comparing qualifications to job requirements and discussing job requirements and applicant qualifications with managers.
  • Arranges management interviews by coordinating schedules; arranges travel; escorting applicant to interviews.
  • Assists with employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the on-boarding process for a new hire; offer letter, background check, drug screen, new hire package, conduct orientation, verify paperwork to ensure accurate completion, create personnel file, create new hire announcements
  • Employee relations; counseling; first level disciplinary actions, incident investigations, etc.
  • Act as a resource to employees/departments/management by providing on site assistance and direction in the management of human resources.
  • Responds to inquiries for employment verifications.
  • Assists with enrollment into various benefit plans
  • Records any personnel changes in data bases and within personnel files
  • Coordinates and collects paperwork for all leaves of absence - FMLA, Workers Comp, STD, LTD
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ADP payroll systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment, labor laws and wage and hour laws
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer applications
  • Advanced knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms as it pertains to HR functions
  • Superior team-working, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively with both employees and managers.
  • Ability to effective apply knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, understand the points being made, ask appropriate questions, and not interrupt at inappropriate times
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches or solutions to problems
  • Ability to understand emotional reactions of others
  • Ability to effectively manage one’s own time in a state of continuous flux
  • Must convey a positive and professional image to applicants and employees
  • Must be able to think outside the box, demonstrate initiative and follow-through
  • Extremely organized, accurate, and highly detail-oriented
  • Self-starter, focused on accomplishing goals
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Must be able to work overtime and travel as required

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ human resource experience

OR

  • A master’s degree in human resource management

OR

  • Five years of experience in the HR field

OR

  • Any similar combination of education and experience.
