Purpose of the Job

The Human Resources Operations Intern provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources team across a variety of HR functions. The role assists with employee lifecycle activities, HR systems administration, payroll and benefits support, employee inquiries, and HR projects while gaining practical experience in Human Resources Operations. This position offers an opportunity to develop foundational HR knowledge and contribute to the delivery of efficient and accurate HR services.

The Core Responsibilities of the Job:

HR Administration & Data Management

  • Assist with maintaining employee records and HR documentation.
  • Support updates and data entry in HR systems.
  • Assist with employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, job changes, and offboarding.
  • Support data audits and reporting to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
  • Assist with maintaining HR process documentation and resources.

Employee & Stakeholder Support

  • Respond to routine employee and manager inquiries and direct requests to the appropriate HR team member.
  • Assist with monitoring and managing requests received through the HR shared mailbox.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR team.
  • Support the delivery of a positive employee experience through timely and professional service.

Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding activities and employee communications.
  • Support new hire setup, orientation, and documentation requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain onboarding and offboarding checklists and tracking tools.
  • Support employee lifecycle administration related to hires, transfers, and departures.

Payroll & Benefits Support

  • Assist with maintaining employee information that supports payroll and benefits administration.
  • Support payroll reporting, audits, and data validation activities.
  • Respond to routine payroll and benefits inquiries or escalate as appropriate.
  • Assist with employee lifecycle changes that impact payroll and benefits.
  • Support payroll documentation and year-end activities as required.

HR Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Support HR projects and initiatives through research, coordination, and administrative assistance.
  • Assist with preparing reports, trackers, and HR metrics.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and documentation updates.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and learning opportunities to build HR knowledge and skills.

  • Currently enrolled in a diploma or degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in Human Resources, Payroll, and employee experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential employee information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
  • Previous administrative, customer service, volunteer, or co-op experience is considered an asset.
