About the Role

Speedway Motorsports is seeking an experienced HR & Payroll Specialist to support multiple companies and locations within our organization. This is a hands-on, well-rounded Human Resources position with responsibilities spanning employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and workplace safety.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and resourceful HR professional who enjoys working directly with employees and managers, takes initiative, and is comfortable managing a variety of responsibilities independently. We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in HR operations, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to balance competing priorities while partnering with HR leadership on more complex matters.

This position offers the opportunity to work across diverse business operations, including motorsports, manufacturing, production, and warehousing. Experience in a similarly operational environment is strongly preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with employees and managers while providing responsive day-to-day HR support.

  • Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers regarding company policies, HR processes, employee concerns, benefits, and payroll.

  • Provide guidance on routine employee relations matters, including attendance, performance management, workplace concerns, and progressive discipline, partnering with HR leadership on more complex situations.

  • Assist with employee relations investigations, corrective actions, documentation, and the consistent application of company policies.

  • Coordinate employee onboarding, including pre-employment screenings, Form I-9, E-Verify, HRIS setup, and initial benefits enrollment.

  • Support recruitment efforts by coordinating job postings, reviewing and screening candidates, assisting with interviews, and supporting hiring managers throughout the selection process.

  • Manage day-to-day benefits administration, including new-hire enrollment, qualifying life events, benefit changes, reconciliations, employee support, and annual open enrollment.

  • Process payroll for multiple companies and locations, including review of timekeeping, PTO, earnings, deductions, employee changes, reconciliations, and payroll reporting.

  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable requirements.

  • Maintain accurate employee records in ADP and other applicable HRIS, payroll, and benefits systems.

  • Manage DOT compliance processes, including driver qualification files, MVRs, medical certifications, required testing, expiration tracking, and related audits.

  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping and compliance requirements for assigned locations.

  • Support the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of workplace safety programs, training, inspections, incident documentation, and corrective-action tracking.

  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims, return-to-work documentation, and related reporting.

  • Provide administrative support for FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, and other employee leave programs.

  • Coordinate employee offboarding, unemployment claims, and employment verification requests.

  • Support internal and external audits involving payroll, benefits, employee records, DOT, OSHA, workers' compensation, and other HR-related areas.

  • Independently manage recurring HR, payroll, and compliance processes, ensuring deadlines are met and accurate documentation is maintained.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and increase accuracy and consistency across HR and payroll operations.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience, required.

  • Three or more years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, preferably in an HR Generalist or similar role.

  • Experience supporting a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and policy administration, strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on payroll processing experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience supporting multiple companies, locations, or employee populations preferred.

  • Experience in a manufacturing, production, warehousing, transportation, or similarly operational environment strongly preferred.

  • Experience with DOT compliance, OSHA recordkeeping, workplace safety programs, or workers' compensation administration preferred.

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with employees and management at all levels.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment with frequent computer and standard office equipment use.

  • Regular walking throughout office, manufacturing, warehouse, and other operational areas will be required.

  • Exposure to noise, machinery, varying temperatures, and other conditions typical of an operational environment may occur.

  • Required personal protective equipment must be worn when applicable.

  • Some travel between company locations may be required.

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
