We are looking for a Data Discovery Engineer to join a team responsible for the operation and continuous improvement of enterprise solutions supporting unstructured data discovery, scanning and classification.
The position focuses on maintaining and supporting platforms such as Arctera Data Insight and Symantec Data at Rest (DAR), used across large-scale storage environments. You will be responsible for ensuring stable day-to-day operations, resolving technical issues, supporting upgrades and contributing to the improvement of the services.
The role involves close cooperation with Storage, Windows, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity and software vendor teams.
Your responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day administration and operational support of platforms used for unstructured data scanning and classification.
- Plan and coordinate application upgrades, patches and configuration changes, including testing before implementation.
- Diagnose and resolve application, performance and infrastructure-related problems.
- Monitor the health, capacity and availability of supported services.
- Assist with integrating and onboarding new storage environments and data repositories.
- Investigate incidents and conduct root cause analysis, identifying opportunities to prevent recurring issues.
- Work closely with Windows, Storage and Cybersecurity teams when resolving technical challenges.
- Cooperate with software vendors on complex issues, troubleshooting activities and verification of fixes.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and knowledge articles.
- Take part in testing new functionality, application releases and changes.
- Contribute to automation activities through scripting where applicable.
- Provide on-call support when required.
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience supporting enterprise applications in Windows environments.
- Knowledge of file systems and storage technologies, ideally including NAS.
- Understanding of CIFS/SMB protocols.
- Practical knowledge of NTFS permissions and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
- Understanding of Active Directory and authentication mechanisms.
- Experience diagnosing application performance and infrastructure issues.
- Hands-on knowledge of PowerShell.
- Familiarity with SQL.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A structured approach to investigating complex technical issues.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and Agile ways of working.
The following experience would be an advantage:
- Arctera Data Insight, formerly known as Veritas Data Insight.
- Symantec Data at Rest (DAR).
- Enterprise solutions related to data discovery, data classification or data security.
- Working with large-scale NAS environments.
- Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery and high-availability concepts.
- Familiarity with commonly used cybersecurity frameworks.
