HSE Coordinator

Open 18d

Summary

Oversee construction site safety, health, and environmental compliance on a major capital project, ensuring contractors meet regulatory standards and fostering a strong safety culture.

We are seeking an experienced Construction Health & Safety Coordinator to join a major capital project team. This role is critical to ensuring that site safety, health, and environment (SHE) standards are implemented and maintained across all phases of the project lifecycle — including construction, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, and qualification.

You will work closely with contractors and the site leadership team to embed a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in construction H,S&W performance. This position reports to the Construction Health & Safety Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Health, Safety & Wellbeing (H,S&W) subject matter expertise to support the project portfolio.
  • Provide assurance and oversight of legal duties and construction H,S&W best practices throughout project execution.
  • Ensure contractors maintain adequate, competent H,S&W resources; monitor performance and address gaps.
  • Review and audit contractor construction-phase safety plans and programmes for compliance with legislative and site requirements; conduct regular site inspections and worker engagements.
  • Partner with contractors on safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Clarify and document transfer-of-responsibility arrangements between the client and contractors, including for temporary construction facilities.
  • Support implementation of workforce drug and alcohol testing procedures where locally permitted.
  • Ensure accidents/incidents are reported, investigated, and root-caused by contractors, with SME input and tracking of corrective actions to closure; ensure statutory reporting obligations are met.
  • Maintain project H,S&W dashboards and monthly reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Share safety alerts and lessons learned across the project portfolio.
  • Participate in regional construction safety networks and collaborate with site SHE leadership.
  • Conduct monthly contractor audits and log safety observations in the project safety management system, tracking closure within required timeframes.

Requirements

Essential

  • Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) or equivalent, or higher.
  • Proven health & safety experience in a project construction environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of relevant Safety, Health & Environment legislation.
  • Strong ability to manage cross-building/interface safety issues.
  • Experience with constructability and cleanroom/GMP execution environments.
