Human Resource Officer

Serge Island Farms Limited (a subsidiary of the Seprod Group) is seeking a dynamic and strategic Human Resource Officer to join our team in Seaforth, St. Thomas. As an integral member of the HR leadership team, you will be responsible for maintaining the company’s human resource plan in alignment with our strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate will support human resources practices that foster an employee-oriented, high-performance culture emphasizing empowerment, quality, and productivity.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. HR Strategy & Department Support

  • Collaborate with and support various departments in developing and delivering HR strategies and initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with the farm’s management team to streamline systems, roles, and responsibilities for employees.
  • Participate in necessary planning meetings and provide the Human Resource Department's periodic reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of the human resource operational budget for the location.

2. Staffing, Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Collaborate with the Recruitment team to fulfill staffing requirements and assist with the recruitment process for both direct and outsourced labor, including job postings, interviews, selection, and job offers.
  • Assist with organizing and executing orientation and onboarding programs for new employees, visitors, and contractors to ensure they are effectively educated on company rules, regulations, and expectations.

3. Employee & Industrial Relations

  • Collaborate with department managers to ensure a harmonious employment relations environment.
  • Conduct disciplinary hearings and effect disciplinary measures in keeping with the Company’s code of conduct.
  • Provide guidance to functional managers on employee relations, grievance procedures, the disciplinary code, and labor law requirements.
  • Provide leadership, counseling, and mentoring to employees regarding company rules, regulations, deportment, socialization, and acceptable professional behavior.
  • Assist in designing and implementing human resource policies and procedures as authorized by the Group HR Manager.

4. HR Administration

  • Manage leave administration and personnel records via the Human Resource Management Information System (HRIS).
  • Ensure proper identification of employees and contractors by issuing valid staff ID cards and temporary gate passes where applicable.
  • Liaise with the Benefits unit to manage the staff canteen and concessionaire service to ensure proper maintenance of the facility and high-quality food service.

5. Communication, Safety & Food Standards

  • Manage the internal communication process by conducting general staff meetings, participating in departmental meetings, and posting notices to ensure effective information dissemination across all levels.
  • Oversee employees’ safety and occupational health initiatives; collaboratively work on Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Planning, and Safety Committees.
  • Support the company's food safety programs (including HACCP, GMP, and FSMA) and manage all personnel-related requirements for these programs.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or Business Management with a Human Resource Management major.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of working experience in Human Resource Management (preferably in a unionized environment).
  • Industrial Relations: Solid knowledge of Industrial Relations practices and procedures, with experience working collaboratively between a company and trade unions.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
    • Working knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) software.
  • Location/Accommodation: Candidates must ideally reside within the parish of St. Thomas or be able to occupy secure accommodation provided on the farm.
