Human Resources Business Partner (Talent Acquisition & Engagement)
Description
HELP GREAT PEOPLE FIND THEIR PLACE AND BUILD THEIR FUTURE.
State Electric Supply Co. is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (Talent Acquisition & Engagement) to help us attract talented people and build an employee experience that encourages them to stay and grow.
You will connect with candidates who may not yet be looking for their next opportunity, help managers make confident hiring decisions, and turn employee feedback into practical action. Your work will shape how people first experience State Electric and how they see their future here.
Founded in 1952, State Electric is a family-owned electrical distributor with 42 locations across seven states. Our success depends on knowledgeable employees, strong relationships, and a commitment to exceptional service.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Corporate Human Resources Director, you will partner with branch and corporate leaders on recruitment, employee engagement, and retention. This role combines hands-on recruiting with the opportunity to improve how we hire, recognize employees, and support career growth.
It is an opportunity for someone who enjoys starting conversations, asks thoughtful questions, and follows through long after an interview or employee survey is complete.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Talent Acquisition and Recruitment
- Manage full-cycle recruiting, from job postings and candidate outreach through screening, interviews, offers, and pre-employment screenings.
- Build relationships with active and passive candidates through targeted outreach, networking, and follow-up.
- Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop recruiting strategies for each opportunity.
- Keep candidates informed and engaged, coordinate interviews, extend offers, and facilitate negotiations.
- Use applicant tracking systems, assessment tools, and recruiting metrics to strengthen selection decisions and improve the hiring process.
Interviewing and Selection
- Develop practical interview guides, question banks, scoring tools, and candidate evaluation forms.
- Train managers and interview teams on behavioral interviewing, legal compliance, and consistent, equitable selection practices.
Employee Engagement and Retention
- Design and coordinate engagement initiatives and recognition programs that help employees feel valued and connected.
- Coordinate employee surveys, stay interviews, and exit interviews; analyze feedback and recommend action plans.
- Partner with managers on retention strategies, career development, succession planning, and internal growth opportunities.
Talent Pipelines and Community Partnerships
- Build relationships with colleges, universities, trade schools, and community organizations to connect future talent with State Electric.
- Represent the company at career fairs, campus recruiting events, and industry networking opportunities.
- Help develop internship, co-op, and workforce-development partnerships that support long-term staffing needs.
HR Partnership and Continuous Improvement
- Provide guidance on recruitment, engagement, and retention policies while supporting compliance with applicable employment laws and company standards.
- Contribute to HR projects and process improvements, and support other HR responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You are comfortable reaching out to someone new, listening carefully to an employee’s concerns, and helping a manager think through a hiring decision. You bring sound judgment and the organization to keep multiple priorities moving.
Qualified candidates should bring:
- Proven expertise in full-cycle recruiting, talent sourcing, and candidate engagement.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral interviewing, structured selection methods, and candidate assessments.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to facilitate training for varied audiences.
- The ability to use recruiting data and employee feedback to identify trends and recommend practical improvements.
- Strong organization, dependable follow-through, and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Proficiency with applicant tracking systems, candidate assessment platforms, and Microsoft Office.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in recruitment, employee engagement, or HR business partner roles is preferred.
- Experience with campus recruiting, workforce development, or community partnerships is preferred.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification is strongly preferred.
