Human Resources Generalist
The Human Resources Generalist serves as a primary HR contact for General Managers and employees, providing day-to-day guidance and support across a broad range of HR matters. This role is responsible for employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, policy interpretation, and general HR support. Operates with general oversight, exercising independent judgment in day-to-day employee relations and performance matters within scope of authority.
The HR Generalist works closely with General Managers to address employee concerns, resolve workplace issues, and ensure HR policies and practices are applied consistently across the organization. The role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to identify when issues require additional review or escalation
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Investigations
- Serve as a primary HR contact for General Managers and employees regarding day-to-day employee relations questions and workplace concerns.
- Manage and resolve employee relations matters, including workplace complaints, policy violations, employee conflicts, and conduct concerns.
- Conduct workplace investigations, evaluate findings, and recommend appropriate outcomes based on company policy and the circumstances involved.
- Identify potential employee relations risks and escalate matters when appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to employee relations matters and investigations.
Performance Management & Corrective Action
- Guide General Managers through performance concerns, corrective action, and employee accountability.
- Review performance documentation and assist managers in determining appropriate next steps.
- Support the development and administration of performance improvement plans and corrective actions.
- Evaluate sensitive or higher-risk situations and escalate matters requiring additional HR or leadership review.
- Support termination decisions and processes related to employee performance or conduct.
- Promote consistency in the application of corrective action and disciplinary practices.
Manager & Employee Support
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance to General Managers on employee relations, performance management, workplace conduct, conflict resolution, and company policies.
- Help managers navigate employee situations while balancing business needs and consistency.
- Address employee questions and concerns and provide guidance on applicable policies, practices, and available resources.
- Identify recurring questions or issues and recommend opportunities to improve communication, manager education, or HR practices.
Training & Development
- Identify opportunities where additional manager training or education may help address recurring issues or gaps.
- Support HR initiatives designed to strengthen manager capability and understanding of company policies and practices.
HR Operations & Generalist Support
- Support day-to-day HR functions and ensure employee and manager matters are addressed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of company policies and procedures.
- Identify trends in employee relations matters and elevate recurring concerns or areas requiring additional attention.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of HR policies, procedures, and practices.
- Partner with other members of the HR team when employee matters involve benefits, leave, payroll, recruiting, or other areas of HR.
Perform other duties as assigned by management, consistent with the scope and level of the role.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of Human Resources Generalist experience with exposure to employee relations and performance management.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR practices.
- Experience supporting managers with employee relations and performance matters.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with appropriate discretion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple employee matters and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting managers across multiple locations or business units.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and supporting corrective action.
- Strong judgment and ability to recognize when an issue requires escalation.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with managers and employees while maintaining appropriate HR boundaries.
- Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
