The HR Generalist serves as a key member of the organization's administrative team by managing day-to-day human resources functions and supporting a positive, inclusive workplace culture. This position is responsible for recruitment, onboarding, compliance, payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, training coordination, and HR recordkeeping. The HR Generalist is the initial contact to the team for all HR inquiries and partners with leadership to ensure HR practices align with the organization's mission, values, and strategic goals.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional who can effectively manage multiple HR functions in a small nonprofit environment while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and a strong commitment to employee engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- (full cycle) Recruitment & Onboarding – we are always recruiting and would love to hear your creative ideas that would add to our sourcing models
- Compliance & HR Administration – includes the administration of leave programs (FMLA, ADA accommodations, etc.)
- Payroll – we run payroll biweekly and would love to find someone with hands-on experience handling this important responsibility
- Benefits & Compensation Administration – administer benefits programs, support our employees in understanding their benefits, and provide necessary assistance with compensation analyses
- Employee Relations – we care about all our employees, and we hope to find someone who has proven success assisting in the resolution of ER issues in a fair and confidential manner
- Performance Management & Training – partner with our managers to identify training needs and present coaching strategies
Qualifications
- Education - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- 3-5 years of progressive human resources experience
- Minimum 1 year of payroll processing preferred; Paychex experience a plus
- Prior successful hands-on experience with all the items listed above!
- Certifications - SHRM-CP, PHR, or other HR certification preferred
Note: This is not all inclusive. The possibility of additional business driven assignments does exist.

- Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/payroll systems
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small-team environment

Working Conditions
