Human Resources Generalist

Samuels Seafood Company, the premier distributor of fresh and frozen seafood in the U.S., is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Inventory Assistant to join our fast-paced and dynamic team.

What You’ll Do:

Samuels Seafood Co. is seeking a dynamic onsite HR Generalist to provide support for a distribution warehouse. In this role, you will play a crucial part in recruiting and streamlining our HR processes and supporting union and non-union operations teams. Your responsibilities will include recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance and maintenance of all HR records. This position is located in South Philadelphia and is fully onsite.

Experience:

  • 3+ year's experience in a human resources role, preferably in a wholesale/retail trade or similar industry.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge of ADP or an equivalent HRIS for recruitment, onboarding, timekeeping, performance management, etc.
  • 3+ years' experience with union and non-union operations in a 24/7 warehouse environment
  • HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, develop job descriptions and hiring strategies.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions (exempt and non-exempt).
  • Assists with the onboarding of new hires: conducts or acquires background checks, employee eligibility verifications, and processes new hire paperwork.
  • Implements new hire orientation (including benefits overviews) and employee recognition programs.
  • Processes terminations and separations.
  • Assists with payroll related functions, utilizing the company’s current HRIS system.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the HR hotline, answering employee inquiries and escalating complex matters to the appropriate HR team members.
  • Performs other administrative tasks and necessary duties as assigned.
